Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Operate safely and in compliance with all established HSSE policies and procedures

Inspect truck and trailer(s) for defects through pre-trip and post-trip inspections and submit reports indicating their condition

Operate a variety of trucks and equipment under a variety of conditions, adhering to posted speed limits and all other local, state, and federal laws and regulations

Maintain driver e-logs and maintenance e-logs according to State and Federal regulations

Make customer pick-ups and deliveries in a manner that reflects superior customer service

Spot trailers to warehouse, chock wheels, and may assist in loading and unloading trailers

Maintain hands-free telephone contact with terminal to receive accurate dispatch instructions

Ensure cargo is secured for transport according to FMCSRs and Carlile requirements

Maintain a clean work environment including swept trailer, clean cab, windows, and mirrors

Determine discrepancies in paperwork and verify proper placarding when hauling HAZMAT

Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Certifications)

High school diploma or GED equivalent

Class A CDL with all endorsements (or ability to get all endorsements)

Two years of verifiable safe tractor-trailer driving experience; previous heavy haul experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITES

Ability to load and unload machinery to a lowboy trailer; flatbed securement experience

Ability to safety transport heavy and oversize loads; handle heavy chains and blocking

Familiar with dove/beaver tail trailers, as well as 40-65 ton RGN’s preferred

Ability to supervise pilot car drivers and direct pilot car activity

Able to work various shifts, days of the week, overtime and occassional overnight/out-of-town work

Record of safe and competent driving as demonstrated on driver’s abstract and driving files.

Experience in snow and ice road conditions

Willing to learn and take instructions with a positive attitude

Ability to maintain a TWIC card

Impeccable character, integrity, and unfailing initiative in a team environment

Must have a current Passport or birth certificate, with the ability to enter Canada and military Installations

Must be customer focused and represent Carlile in a professional and friendly manner

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions (extreme cold and inclement conditions – snow, ice, rain, wind, etc.). The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vehicle vibration. May also be exposed to long periods of isolation time while driving or resting. May also be exposed to heavy traffic conditions while driving.
