How you make a difference
The Nurse Practitioner provides a full range of medical services for inmates. They work under the supervision of the Site Medical Director and other site Physicians and in accordance with established policy and procedure as well as within the state guidelines. They provide required documentation of services to the Site Medical Director or designee in order to monitor provision of clinical services. They notify the Medical Director and H.S.A. regarding changes in schedule coverage. Assist in arrangements for coverage of medical services if unavailable for an extended period of time.
Key Responsibilities
Reports to the assigned facility at designated times to examine patients, conduct chronic care clinics and sick calls, and perform infirmary rounds, ensuring all interactions and progress notes are documented in SOAP format and adhere to established standards.
Responds to health emergencies and provides on-site emergency treatment, adhering to standard guidelines, and provides call coverage for the facility based on client and patient needs.
Utilizes available in-house resources for treatment before considering off-site referrals and adheres to the established formulary for therapeutic regimens, ensuring non-formulary procedures are justified and approved by the Medical Director.
Supports standards of medical care by following policies and procedures for infirmary admissions, emergency room transfers, and the utilization review process for specialty referrals while maintaining responsibility for individual judgments and actions.
Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with accepted practices for incarcerated individuals and participates in facility committees, such as Pharmacy and Therapeutics and Medical Audit Committee, as requested.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
A graduate of an accredited school of nursing
An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Experience
Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred.
Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment.
Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage.
Licenses/Certifications
Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment.
Must have and maintain current CPR certification.
Additional Details
** Primary care coverage for 20 hours/week - flexible scheduling available. Possible fulltime opportunities for early 2025. **
