Job Summary
:
The Substitute School Nurse plays a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of students during the absence of the regular school nurse. This position involves providing temporary nursing care, administering medications, responding to medical emergencies, and managing the health needs of students. The Substitute School Nurse collaborates with school staff, communicates with parents, and maintains accurate health records to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all students.
Qualifications and Requirements :Current Kansas Licensed Practical Nurse license.Current certification in BLS.Experience in pediatrics and school setting preferred.Must have knowledge and ability to use health equipment and computer applicationsMaintain current TB testing as required by health department regulations.Performance Responsibilities
:
Manage the health room in the absence of the primary nurse.Serve as a health advocate for the pupil.Provide building level leadership to promote healthy attitudes among pupils and school staff.Facilitate in the implementation of Board of Education health related policies.Assist in the prevention and control of communicable diseases, including monitoring of immunization status. Follow district policy regarding the exclusion of students related to immunization status.Notify parents of the need for medical and screening referrals, with follow up to ensure all students receive proper care.Assist in providing emergency care for pupils and school personnel in the case if injury or sudden illness until a lawful guardian assumes responsibility.Document medication administration and maintain, dispense, and secure all student medication according to policy for medication administration.Document all encounters with students and any information received or shared regarding student health.Ensure health room has first and health supplies and maintain equipment as directed.Ensure high level of confidentiality regarding student and staff information in order to remain in compliance with legal requirements and to maintain a professional work environment.

Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-pace, high-intensive work environment.
