As the Director of Legal and the foundational member of the team, you will own all aspects of legal strategy, including commercial, product & privacy, corporate, and employment law. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving our legal practices, working closely with Sales, Customer Success, Revenue Operations, and Finance to develop best-in-class B2B commercial processes that set Scribe up for success across channels. This includes advising on strategic deals, go-to-market issues, and tactical input regarding commercial agreements and regulatory compliance. In addition to providing hands-on legal support in a few core domains, this role will manage outside counsel relationships when specialized legal expertise is required. You will report to the Director of Finance and Operations and work closely with the Founders and Leadership team.
Examples of what you'll be doing
Advise the executive leadership team on legal mattersDraft, structure, review, negotiate, and advise on various inbound and outbound commercial agreements, including customer and channel sales transactions that drive the company's revenues, strategic partnerships, NDAs, and vendor agreementsManage, influence, evolve, and scale Scribe's commercial contracting function, including operational aspects, to drive excellence and efficiency in contractingBalance and prioritize the strategic and complex projects you are leading and the contracts you're negotiatingWork cross-functionally with revenue, partnerships, and finance teams to navigate customer requirements while balancing Scribe's operational process and need for scalability, becoming a trusted advisor to the teamProvide guidance on data privacy and protection issues, ensuring products and services adhere to relevant regulationsManage corporate legal matters, including equity transactions and governance mattersAdvise on employment-related matters, including HR policies, employment agreements, and compliance with employment lawsCollaborate cross-functionally with teams across the organization, providing legal insights to support strategic initiatives and product developmentYou could be a great fit if
At your core, you are a strong transactional attorney who readily adapts to changing priorities and organizational needs. You consider yourself a business-minded lawyer, you prioritize creativity and pragmatism over standard accepted norms, consistently analyzing legal issues through a business lens, balancing business agility with legal risk. Your adaptability, flexibility, and curiosity drive you to continuously learn and enhance your skills while proactively identifying and resolving issues.
Your comfort with ambiguity enables you to operate autonomously, you excel at prioritizing high-impact workstreams and make swift decisions amid imperfect information. Your enthusiasm for providing strategic and tactical legal counsel to cross-functional leaders aligns seamlessly with our dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Additionally, your ability to cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders and effectively communicate complex legal concepts to diverse audiences will be instrumental in driving positive outcomes for the organization.
Qualifications
6+ years of experience, including 3+ years at law firms and 3+ years in-house at high growth technology companies (strong preference for SaaS or B2B businesses)Experience providing tactical, day-to day legal support while also having the ability to zoom out and think strategicallyProficiency in commercial B2B SaaS transactions, including direct, channel partnerships, and strategic transactionsDeep expertise in tech-related legal matters, including SaaS agreements and data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)Outstanding verbal and written communication skillsMust understand and be able to articulate the financial and regulatory impact of our business decisions to internal and external stakeholdersAn appetite to learn new areas of the legal function that you previously didn't have exposure toExperience with managing external counselExceptional judgment and integrityStrong sense of initiative & ownershipJD degree from an accredited law school and admission to a state barWhat we can offer you

Compensation
$180K - $250K + equity + benefits
