JOB SUMMARY
The primary function of the Safety Manager is to oversee and supervise all Company safety programs, ensuring a safe, healthy and accident-free work environment. The secondary function of the Safety Manager is to conduct employee training for all departments including work procedures, product use, safety requirements and protocols.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supervises Company compliance with all Federal, State and local occupational safety rules and regulations, including OSHA, CSA and DOT.
2. Monitors all employee training, internal and external, accumulating training records for all employees, and reports summary data to senior management on a periodic basis. Creates and conducts training programs for Managers and employees related to work site safety practices, loss prevention and material handling techniques. Prepares and arranges safety exhibits, signs, posters and materials for display and safety meetings. Conducts training sessions covering specified areas such as new employee orientation, on-the-job training, apprenticeship programs, customer service, refresher training, promotional development, upgrading.
3. Inspects Company facilities for existing or potential accident and health hazards, recommends corrective or preventive measures, and follows up to ensure remediation. Assists senior management with the design, construction and operation of Company facilities to maximize public safety.
4. Investigates work-related injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material evidence for Company use in formal proceedings. Records, analyzes and reports industrial accidents and health hazards for use by Company personnel and outside agencies. Compiles and submits all accident reports required by regulatory authorities.
5. Oversees the Company workers compensation program. Coordinates loss prevention with the insurance carrier to reduce claims and lost time.
6. Represents the Company in community and industry safety groups, events and programs.
7. Maintains all Company safety files and records.
QUALIFICATIONS
College degree in a related field preferred. Excellent organization, verbal and written communication skills, including group presentation/education. Strong ability to compose, read, comprehend and convey technical instructions and information in English. Must have the ability to reason, define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent, draw and interpret bar graphs. Qualified candidate will have a strong working knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheets and HR database. Five years of experience in Safety, Training or related field required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position involves both sedentary and active work. For part of the shift, s/he will work at a desk in an office setting, doing paperwork, typing, filing, and key entry. Extensive telephone and correspondence work required on a daily basis. For part of the shift, s/he will stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach, moving about the dealership facility to communicate with managers, employees, and customers either in groups or one-on-one. S/he will be required to travel extensively both by car and airplane on a monthly basis. Will be exposed to noise, dust, exhaust fumes, and a variety of other hazardous and nonhazardous materials.
