The essential duties of the
Clinical Veterinarian/Program Director
are:
Assist with the training of animal care personnel and development of facility policies and standard operating procedures.Participates in developing and performing the preventive medicine program.Provides written general and detailed reports of clinical observations, medical or surgical treatment in an electronics animal records system.Work with Colony Manager and veterinarians to establish veterinary and animal care standards.Provides clinical and surgical support including physical examinations, anesthesia and perform diagnostic procedures.Provide health care for the chimpanzee colony.Ensure that the program is in compliance with all Federal regulations and guidelinesJob Qualifications
The following are minimum requirements related to the
Clinical Veterinarian/Program Directo r position:
Requires Doctoral degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from and AVMA accredited program.Must obtain a New Mexico state license within 1 year.Is licensed to practice in United States.Maintain eligibility for DEA licensure.ACLAM board certification/eligibility is preferred.Must have completed residency training in Laboratory Animal Medicine or have four years of primate facility management experience.Experience with captive chimpanzees is preferred.Experience with general operations, animal facility design, and personnel management is needed.Must have thorough understanding of Animal Welfare regulations and AAALAC accreditation processes.Eligibility for the position is based on negative TB, Hepatitis C and drug test
The annual salary for this position is $190,000.
