Description

Manage the department inpatient service for Burn Treatment Center patients by providing overall medical management and serving as the primary patient manager with responsibility for admissions; supervising care plans; ordering treatments, tests, and medications; developing discharge plans; and effectively manage the length of the patient stay.

Mentor and educate fellows, residents and medical students as to the needs and issues of inpatient population management and optimal resource utilization leading to decreased length of stay and minimize unplanned readmissions.Coordinate and participate in clinical and quality improvement research.Develop care plans, educational materials, and/or resources that will facilitate care of surgery patients.Provide overall medical care, functioning independently to-perform or assist in surgery and bedside procedures; order and interpret laboratory tests, x-ray procedures and related studies; order diets, physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or other rehabilitative services; prescribe, deliver and/or dispense medications.Document patient assessments and plan of care in the medical record and generate appropriate health reports for outgoing correspondence.Assure completion of documentation for coding and billing purposes when appropriate.Direct and mentor other medical personnel and health professionals in the execution of patient care.Initiate and coordinate patient referrals to appropriate specialty and subspecialty physicians or other health care providers as indicated by the patients' health conditions(s)/diagnosis.Facilitate the appropriate referral of patient to other health facilities, agencies and resources as appropriate.Provide guidance and counseling to patients and family members.Participate in unit council, bed huddle, and other division or unit-based meetings as directed by Division director.Provide education and serve as a resource for CCOM and UIHC staff and providers.Assure clinical competency and expertise in area of hospital specialization.Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.Percent of Time:

Required Qualifications:

Physician Assistant (PA):

Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from an accredited PA educational program and/or certification by the NCCPA.Active Iowa Physician Assistant license.Active DEA license or ability to apply for such a license upon hire.Active ACLS certification.Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff, and students.or

Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP):

Master's or Doctorate degree from accredited Nursing program with Acute Care certification, Primary Care certification will be considered with appropriate experience.Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the State of Iowa.Active Iowa RN and ARNP licenses.Active DEA license or ability to apply for such a license upon hire.Active ACLS certificationDemonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff, and students.Desired Qualifications:

Extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, pharmacology, management of acute and chronic Emergency General Surgery and Trauma diagnoses.Ability to function with a high degree of independence in a collaborative and multidisciplinary team providing care for highly complex patients.Possess the requisite knowledge and clinical skills to provide care to the adult and geriatric population.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to prioritize workflow.Ability and willingness to learn and assist with Emergence General Surgery and Trauma procedures and management.Experience with data and quality management projects.Two years of experience as an APP in Emergency General Surgery, Trauma, Intensive Care or other surgical specialty.Application Process:
