The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
JOB SUMMARY
:
Under the direction of the Director of Mental Health Services, this position provides direct psychiatric care to adolescent patients assigned to Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) institutional facilities and halfway houses plus patients assigned to local outpatient facilities and/or patients treated vial telepsychiatry.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
:
Contribute to the success of UTMB Health - Correctional Managed Care.
Provides direct psychiatric care to youth patients assigned to a TJJD facility.
Directly responsible for all youth on the psychiatry caseload.
May participate in civil commitment proceedings for mentally ill juvenile offenders.
Conducts psychiatric and mental status examinations on referred current patients.
Provides clinical supervision to psychiatric mid-level practitioners as assigned by the Clinical Director or Director of Mental Health Services.
Is required to work all assigned hours and to ensure that all staff comply with timekeeping regulations.
Provides emergency psychiatric call.
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for the department.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Mental Health Services.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
:
Thorough knowledge of modern principles and practices of psychiatry.
Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of general medicine.
Ability to provide clinical guidance and supervision to psychiatric mid-level practitioners.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients, patient families and co-workers.
Knowledge of mental health and managed care issues and principles.
EQUIPMENT
:
Standard office equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
:
Standard office environment. Located within the confines of a prison, jail or juvenile detention center. Will have direct patient contact and, as a result, be exposed to ordinary risks of clinical providers. May include some travel to meetings.
Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
:
M.D. or D.O.
Eligible for Board Certification in Psychiatry.
Current full, unrestricted Texas Medical License.
Residency training in psychiatry.
Must hold current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) controlled substance registration.
Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience.
