We have an opening for a Conflicts Attorney with 2+ years of experience at a mid-sized to large law firm for our client in their Washington, DC office.
The ideal candidate who will be part of the Conflicts and New Business Intake Department and will directly report to the Managing Director of Conflicts and New Business Intake. This position entails providing support to the Firm's Office of General Counsel, Compliance Officer, and Conflicts and New Business Intake Department by conducting legal research, analyzing information, and offering advice on subjects concerning conflicts of interest, ethical and professional responsibilities, compliance, and various other topics.
What You'll Do:
Knowledge of and familiarity with conflicts rules as well as other ethics and professional responsibilities rules and laws in the United States, Europe, Asia and South America;Working with non-attorney conflict staff to identify, analyze and resolve ethical and business conflicts issues related to requests for proposals, new business intake, lateral transfers, thrust-upon conflicts, media checks, secondments and other matters;Working directly with attorneys and other stakeholders to resolve ethical and business conflicts and draft engagement and waiver terms, including scopes of engagement, specific and advance waivers, alternative fee arrangements and other terms;Advising on ethical wall memoranda and working with stakeholders to ensure enforcement of same;Experience using intake and conflicts products to perform conflicts checks (experience with Intapp's new business intake and conflicts modules is desired);Performing legal research and analysis relating to conflicts or other matters pertaining to ethics and/or professional responsibility;Draft and present memoranda and presentations on recent developments in conflicts law;Reviewing and recommending revisions to outside counsel guidelines and other terms, and negotiating same;Completing special projects under the direction of the Managing Director of Conflicts and New Business Intake and/or the Office of General Counsel; andFlexible schedule and ability to cover on-call shifts to ensure the department can provide 24/7 coverage for the resolution of conflicts of interest.What You'll Bring:
J.D. required; and2+ years of experience at a mid-sized to large law firm (preferably multinational).Must demonstrate strong commitment to providing excellent client service;Must maintain strict confidentiality of the affairs of the Firm and its clients;Must be flexible and able to embrace shifting demands and tight deadlines;Able to identify and escalate issues as appropriate and present them clearly and succinctly with proposed solutions;Experience using various databases such as Intapp's suite of products;Excellent legal research and writing skills; andWriting sample required with application.
