DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Nurse Apprentice position provides an opportunity for a nurse that is a senior nurse or a graduate from an accredited institution with an ADN or higher that has not taken the NCLEX-RN boards. These employees will work directly with a registered nurse throughout acute care. Individuals hired into this position must be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam at a future date. Once the NCLEX-RN exam is taken and passed the employee eligible to apply for open RN positions within the organization. An individual who fails the NCLEX-RN exam will remain in the nurse apprentice program until successful licensure is obtained. The Nurse Apprentice utilizes the nursing process as the frame of reference for practice and provides direct patient care, with supervision from a registered professional nurse, to patients and families. This is an entry-level nursing position for new graduate nurses and individuals who are senior nursing students in their last semester at a Board approved ADN nursing program or higher. Training, evaluation, and competencies for this role are overseen by a Nurse Leader to the department.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
Experience:
Senior nursing student or graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required. Thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedures required.
Education and Training:
Nursing students in their senior year, or Associates Degree in Nursing. BSN preferred.
License, Certification & Registration:
CPR
Other Requirements:
If board licensed must demonstrate continuing education in accordance with State regulations. Assures compliance with unit-specific scope of practice. Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so the requirements of the position can be fully met.
