Job Description
Job Position Title: School Bus Driver
Supervisor: Director of Operations
Status: Classified Employee
Job Goal: The driver is responsible for operating the district's school buses, ensuring the safety of the students transported. It is the goal every position to provide services which will ensure the successful and efficient operations of the FCSD.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent
Commercial Driver's License with air brake, passenger and "S" endorsements
Participate in the district's drug and alcohol testing program including a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
Ability to positively interact with students, support staff, district employees and community members
Ability to make sound decisions
Successfully complete a DOT physical as per required by the State of Iowa
Responsibilities:
Adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations, safety standards, board policies and administrative rules.
Report all accidents or mishaps occurring while operating a school bus to the director of auxiliary services
Complete required documents as required by the District and state.
Provide a safe environment and maintain discipline in all school vehicles.
Comply with all standards of vehicle operation as required by statute, district policy or other legally constituted authority.
Perform the daily pre-trip inspection, recorded on provided form and submitted to the director of auxiliary services in a timely manner.
Immediately report any malfunctions or deficiencies related to the bus to the head mechanic.
Participate and attend all required in-services or training related to the safe and efficient operations of the school bus.
Participate in the semi-annual school bus inspections administered by the state.
To drive the school bus on the assigned route on a regular schedule: to transport only authorized students and to discharge students only at authorized stops.
Emphasize safety at all times.
Be alert to all conditions when operating the bus, including weather and road conditions.
Use good judgment and drive "defensively" to avoid mishaps or accidents.
Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students and job, and communicate the same to the community.
Accept constructive criticism and suggestions and seek to improve each performance responsibility.
Responsibilities: Continued
Keep route sheets with student data and information up to date
Inform the director of auxiliary services of any hazards or potential hazards identified on the assigned route.
Complete all general duties and tasks associated with this assigned position in a timely and efficient manner.
The listed responsibilities would be typical. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the Director of Auxiliary Services on an "as needed" basis.
