The Beecher's Handmade Cheese
Shift Manager
is responsible for cheese manufacturing, including product quality, staffing, employee development, budgeting, production, and maintenance. The Shift Manager leads a team of skilled employees to achieve exceptional quality and continuous improvement.
This position is
Monday through Friday
between the hours of
11am to 7pm , with
every other weekend on-call . Schedule may be subject to change due to staffing.
Responsibilities:• Provide hands-on oversight to produce award winning cheeses with world class quality.• Hire, train, and develop highly skilled, effective employees.• Compose and effectively utilize work instructions and an e-learning system.• Lead team to achieve high food safety standards.• Develop and adhere to an operating budget.• Manage inventory levels to maximize throughput and productivity.• Ensure compliance with best food safety practices: Serve as a HACCP team member.• Achieve strong BRC and regulatory audit scores.• Acquire a state pasteurizer certification and train pasteurizer operators.• Maintain exceptional levels of employee safety, including training, improved process arrangements, and safety meetings.• Perform raw milk procurement, transportation, and quality assurance. Work closely with milk producers and the Director of Production to solve milk quantity and quality issues.• Beecher's production floor is a show place and must be visually appealing to millions of customers who visit each year. The production manager is responsible for overseeing all repairs and maintenance of the cheese making facility and equipment.• Set a consistent example for company core values: Actively promote a culture of respect, quality, and continuous improvement, with effective and thorough communication.• Perform employee scheduling, payroll, performance and wage evaluations, and disciplinary actions.• Perform period invoice reporting.
Projects:• Process improvements to improve quality, safety, and efficiency.• Composition of work instructions, training item lists, and other documentation systems.
Qualifications:• At least two years of leadership experience in a food production environment, (cheese making or a similar dairy industry is a PLUS)• Degree in Food Science, Fermentation Science, or Biology, or a qualifying combination of education and/or work experience• Proven leadership experience, in a team setting, effective written and oral communication• Knowledge of HACCP & GMP required• Comfortable with Microsoft office/data entry, and strong written and verbal communication skills• The ability to perform physically demanding tasks, stand for long periods, and lift up to 65 pounds when needed.

Compensation:
The starting salary range for this position is between $78,000 - $85,000 per year, plus an annual bonus plan. Actual compensation will be determined by skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
