City Medical Specialist II / School Health Physician (Part-Time)
Division/Program Summary Description:
The Supervising Physician is responsible for ensuring the provision of mandated clinical services, as per the New York City Health Code, for students attending New York City Public Schools. In addition to providing direct clinical services as outlined by the mandate, they are also responsible for providing supervision for the CMS I school health physicians assigned to 1800 New York City public school buildings.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:Work within the mandates, policies, and protocols of the Office of School Health (OSH), remaining up to date with all OSH policies and protocols.Supervision of administrative physicians assigned to review medical accommodations, serving as a consultant for all medical accommodations.Complete Accommodation Reviews (Home Instruction, Transportation/Medical Exception, Diabetes Medication Administration Form Reviews, Paraprofessional Reviews, and Immunization Exemption Reviews) efficiently, using sound clinical judgment, coordinating services when appropriate; utilizing the Automated Student Health Record (ASHR) to maintain accurate student health records.Consult with community primary care providers and specialists to review accommodations requests when needed to ensure appropriate care coordination.Integrate information from multiple agency sources and communication with PCPs to determine the appropriate level of service for each accommodation request.Participate in meetings concerning student medical needs at school; managing complex clinical cases in collaboration with multiple teams, including OSH clinical and DOE teams; functions as a leading medical expert for the school community as part of multi-disciplinary, multi-agency collaboration to review and implement accommodations for students.Perform clinical case reviews as requested by the Medical Director and reviews and assists with in-school case management; advocating for the health needs of students as outlined by their diagnosis and related accommodation requests and current services.Participate in the Program's public health initiatives/exploratory research projects/quality improvement programs and participates in the agency's on-call physician program.Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis.

Qualifications
Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York; and either:a) Valid Board Certification issued by the appropriate American Specialty Board in any specialty area required by the agency; orb) Current approved application on file for admission to the certifying examination given by the appropriate American Specialty Board in any specialty area required by the agency.To be assigned to Assignment Level II, individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum qualification requirements for Assignment Level I described above, one year of satisfactory experience practicing in the specialty area.To be assigned to Assignment Level III, individuals must possess:a) A valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York; andb) A Master's degree in Public Health, or equivalent Master's degree, including or supplemented by graduate credits in epidemiology and biostatistics. Completion of Epidemic Intelligence Service program of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention may be used to substitute for this Master's degree; andc) At least two years of satisfactory experience after receipt of the Master's degree, or equivalent, in the practice of epidemiology. Specialty Board Certification or eligibility may be substituted for one year of this experience.To be assigned to Assignment Level IV, individuals must possess:a) A valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York; andb) Completion of an approved residency program in an accredited hospital, including three years of experience, in either internal medicine, or family practice, or pediatrics, or another related specialty area required by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; andc) Valid board certification or board eligibility issued by the appropriate American Subspecialty Board in Infectious Disease, Pulmonary Medicine, or a related subspecialty; andd) Completion of an approved fellowship program in an accredited hospital, including two years of experience, in either infectious diseases, or pulmonary medicine, or another related subspecialty required by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
