Supports Long Beach Medical Center's strategic plan and participates in and advocates performance improvement/patient safety activities.Directs and coordinates all operations of the department according to the policies, procedures, standards and standard work that guide the processes for the assigned department. Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individuals and processes for the department to ensure consistent high-quality, cost-effective patient care. Manages material and labor resources as defined in the departmental annual budget. Demonstrates positive, professional communication with patients, families, physicians, departmental and interdepartmental staff to optimize workflow and to facilitate problem identification and resolution.Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the JobSupervises and directs patient care within one department/unit while on shift.Fosters an environment of patient and family centered care with special attention to cultural diversity and personal patient care needs.Models an interdisciplinary approach and collaborates with physician partners to achieve optimal operational efficiency.Monitors personnel in performance of patient care activities to ensure safe, efficient quality patient care outcomes.Promotes the advancement of the profession of nursing.Makes rounds to assess patient care quality, to introduce self to patient and families, and to solicit feedback on quality of nursing services and any other concerns.Assesses the staffing requirements of the unit throughout the shift and plans for staffing the next shift.Investigates and resolves patient care and operational issues as needed throughout the shift. When unable to resolve during shift, ensures communication with Manager, Assistant Unit and/or Manager, Clinical Operations to facilitate resolution.Ensures shift compliance with quality and regulatory requirements, unit-based performance improvement initiatives, patient and staff engagement initiatives, as well as productivity expectations.Reviews and acts on requests to adjust schedules, including requests to come in late, leave early, or utilize sick time.Manages the number of assigned personnel based on patient acuity and needs and available staff resources and skills.Arranges or provides staff relief for meals and breaks.Supports MemorialCare initiatives.Foster employee engagement, inspiring loyalty and leading by example.Creates a supportive and healthy work environment through clinical and administrative leadership and expertise.Participates in patient care, as needed.Provides input into evaluation of performance of unit employees.Provides ongoing assessment of department operations and patient care processes for opportunities to improve, facilitates data collection and participates in quality activities to improve care.Promotes and participates in activities designed to support organizational excellence and growth.Ability to follow and support company policies, procedures, standard work and directives.Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner.Ability to prioritize and multitask.Performs other duties as assigned.*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities.
