Position Summary
This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Saddleback Medical Center. It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with our core values: Integrity, Accountability, Best Practices, Compassion and Synergy. The employee shall support Saddleback Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities.
The RN Nurse Navigator’s primary function is assisting patients and families through the healthcare system with the goal of achieving optimal patient outcomes. The RN Nurse Navigator will provide cancer patients and families with information addressing their concerns, including but not limited to financial, social services, education, treatment options and access to clinical trials. The RN Nurse Navigator may serve as a care coordinator for multi-disciplinary teams. The RN Nurse Navigator is a self-directed individual who is an expert practitioner with essential educator and case manager role components. The RN Nurse Navigator works closely with the clinical staff, physicians, Tumor Boards and community resources.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job:
Works as part of the multidisciplinary team addressing the needs of cancer patients, both inpatient and outpatient, and their families.Promotes a patient and family centered care environment for ethical decision making and advocacy for patients with cancer.Coordinates activities to ensure delivery of quality patient care, the attainment of program objectives and promotion of the positive customer experience.Ensures any communication is culturally sensitive.Ability to be at work and be on timeAbility to follow company policies, procedures, and directivesAbility to interact in a positive and constructive mannerAbility to prioritize and multitask
*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience:
Minimum five (5) years of experience in oncology requiredExperience in Gyn Onc, GI, or Prostate cancer highly preferredFamiliarity with HIPAA and standard medical record communicationBasic knowledge and skills in Microsoft Word, Power Point and ExcelStrong verbal and written communication skillsWorking knowledge of insurance coverageWorking knowledge of supportive community resourcesEducation/Licensure/Certification:
Current CA RN license requiredBachelor's degree in nursing preferredONS/ONCC/OCN certification highly preferredCurrent BLS certificate preferred
