OverviewFor more than 70 years Mercy Medical Center Redding has offered comprehensive health care in the North State providing acute care and a full range of medical services. The 267-bed hospital offers major medical services including a Level II Trauma Center as well as specialized Cardiovascular Care Stroke Care Orthopedics Neurological Surgery Comprehensive Cancer Care Maternity Care and da Vinci Robotic Surgery. It is the sole provider of obstetrical services along with the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Shasta County. ResponsibilitiesPosition Summary:
Under general supervision of the surgeons and clinical supervision the incumbent provides a variety of medical services. These include surgical assisting inpatient management preoperative and postoperative evaluations and staff/patient education. The PA's are granted privileges as outlined by the Medical Staff Bylaws and Title 16 of the California Administrative Code as per their privilege list In addition the incumbent oversees the day-to-day operation of the function ensuring that standards of care are met and that all required daily checks chart documentation meet standards as well as daily call to patients. Position will report to Chief Nurse Executive.
Performs comprehensive and problem focused history and physical exams.
Diagnoses and treats common conditions and provides follow-up care within scope of practice.
Orders collects performs and interprets appropriate laboratory or diagnostic procedures and studies.
Exercises judgement on problems requiring consultation referral or evaluation by the supervising physician or other health care professionals.
Orders prescribes and administers medications according to California State Law.
Provides documentation according to department standards.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
Bacherlor's or Master's Degree from an accredited PA Program approved by the California Board of Medical Examiners
At time of hire licensed as a Physycian Assistant in the State of California
Current BLS for Health Care Providers and ACLS certifications
Experience with all and proficiency in endoscopic vessel harvesting (EVH).
Experience in cardiothoracic surgery (first and second assisting opening and closing suturing surgical wounds & wound care).Experience in critical care (ICU) management – advanced understanding in pleurovac and chest tube management.
Experience in performing invasive procedures (including but not limited to central vascular access Swan Ganz insertion dialysis catheter insertion IABP insertion chest tube insertion thoracentesis).
Experience with endoscopic radial artery harvesting (ERAH).
Experience with Thoracic Robotic First Assistant education
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with endoscopic radial artery harvesting (ERAH).
Experience with Thoracic Robotic First Assist.
