POSITION DESCRIPTION:

To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district's curriculum and extracurricular programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Learn and be prepared to drive any route in the district.On-call duty for specified times each morning and afternoon to meet Department needs.Ride-along route evaluations for other staff, as needed.Assist other route drivers with student management, ride-alongs, evacuation drills as needed.Assist front office with various tasks, routes, field trips as needed and as assigned.Ensures the safety of each passenger while on the bus in accordance with board policies and rules.Operation of the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations (e.g. road hazards, medical emergencies, accidents, etc.) for the purpose of resolving and/or recommending a resolution to the situation.Perform safe loading and unloading procedures at authorized stops according to assigned schedule.Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g. fluid levels, tire pressure, exterior condition, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle and complying with mandated guidelines.Establishing and maintaining rapport with passengers.Maintain discipline among passengers.Maintain effective contact with the public.Complete required reports on time in the prescribed manner.Satisfactorily complete required training and first aid programs.Arrive at bus location 20 minutes before time to leave on route.Spend ½ hour per day (2 ½ hours per week) maintaining a clean interior and exterior of the bus in accordance with standard procedures.Fuels assigned vehicle (e.g. oil, water, fuel, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining the vehicle in a safe operating condition.Conduct Evacuation Drills two times per year according to state law.Submit to random drug and alcohol testing, state law.Must pass an annual DOT physical examination by licensed physicianOther duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Employ effective decision making skills.Engage in two-way communication with students, district staff, parents, and the community.Knowledge of public laws, rules, regulations, and current business issues governing student transportation services.Ability to weigh options, think clearly, evaluate accurately, and make sound judgements.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Current State of Wyoming commercial driver's license with passenger endorsement and school bus endorsements; and adherence of license requirements. Paid CDL training upon hire.Attend and maintain requirements of safety and security ICS 100/200 training. The Incident Command System (ICS) is a standardized approach to the command, control, and coordination of emergency response providing a common hierarchy within which responders from multiple agencies can be effective.Meet current district vehicle insurance qualifications for driving coverage. Current requirement is: less than three moving violations in three years.CPR/First Aid Certification, preferred.Maintain a current DOT physical examination as required.Submit to state required random drug testing.Submit to a federal background check.High School education or equivalent.Minimum of 4 years in a transportation field, preferred.
