Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner is an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to well and ill patients in the clinic settings to include occupational health visits. The Nurse Practitioner educates patients and/or their families in order to promote wellness, prevent health problems, maintain current health and intervene in acute illness. The Nurse Practitioner seeks opportunities for professional growth through participation in continuing education, staff development and hospital committees.

Must be credentialed and approved for privileges through the established Medical Staff Committees initially and on an ongoing basis.Specialized or Technical Education Required:Licensed in the State of Louisiana as an Advanced Practice Registered NurseMust have active DEA license within six months of hire. As of April 2014 job revision, existing employees will have nine months to obtain a DEA license. Responsibilities:

1. Conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessment of patients/families with acute health problems which may include the psychosocial, cognitive and personal assets and limitations of the patient/family, with an emphasis on wellness. Conducts pre-employment screens / physicals in conjunction with physician, as needed. Conducts post injury Workers Compensation evaluations.2. Establishes medical diagnoses; orders and evaluates diagnostic studies; performs and monitors therapeutic procedures; assesses and/or recommends follow-up plans.3. Records and documents health appraisal data necessary to maintain, coordinate and/or expedite required services.4. Assumes responsibility and accountability for time management, professional relationships and interpersonal interactions.5. Acts as a resource to healthcare staff and implements educational programs to improve management of patients/families.6. Develops, conducts and/or evaluates formal or informal in-service and continuing education programs in areas of expertise.7. Maintains and enhances a current level of knowledge relative to professional practice, as well as continuing education requirements necessary for licensure.8. Follows North Oaks Health System's Compliance Program and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.9. Performs approved procedures competently.10. Documents in the medical record according to policy.
