About the Facility - G.V. Sonny Montgomery VAMC (Jackson VAMC) The G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery VAMC in Jackson, MS is a 150 bed tertiary care facility, with an additional 86 long term care beds with a Palliative Care Unite, three 150-bed State Veteran's nursing homes, and several ambulatory care clinics that provides care to over 45,000 Veterans. This medical center provides primary, secondary, and tertiary medical, neurological, and mental health inpatient care. Services include hemodialysis, hematology/oncology, sleep studies, substance abuse treatment, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment, and rehab programs. The Pharmacy Service is involved with both primary care and specialized outpatient services including Hepatitis C treatment, Diabetes care, HIV treatment, and Erythropoietin Stimulating Agent management. Comprehensive health care is available for female veteran patients within the medical center, as well as a 24-hour emergency room department.

ED PHYSICIAN RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)
Emergency physicians shall provide immediate medical evaluation, examination, diagnosis, treatment, and/or referral of patients who present for care in the ED. "Present for care" includes patients referred to the Emergency Department by other medical providers in the VA Healthcare Facility system (such as outpatient clinics, outlying clinics, ED Fast Track, inpatient, etc.). Shall provide professional advice to other VA providers with regard to professional management of patients in their fast-track portion of the Emergency Department as well. Shall cover the range of emergency room care typically provided in an urban civilian practice of similar size. It is an estimated 95% direct patient care, 5% estimated administrative responsibility not involved in direct patient care. The following list is an example of the types of cases, but is not all-inclusive:
Major trauma, including fractures of multiple extremities, stab wounds, open wounds of the chest and abdomen, head trauma, suspected spine injuries, lacerations, amputations. Major medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest, myocardial infarction, respiratory failure, shock. Obstetrical emergencies such as deliveries of single or multiple births, acute pregnancy complications, vaginal bleeding. Pediatric emergencies, including neonatal resuscitations. Acute psychiatric problems, including suicide attempts. Lower-acuity complaints including viral illnesses, other infections, minor orthopedic problems, minor trauma, alcohol abuse (i.e. "urgent care" patients). Other miscellaneous medical problems both acute and chronic.
ED PHYSICIAN REQUIREMENTS
Unrestricted license to practice medicine in any other U.S. State or Territory. Shall be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine with no less than 2 years full-time ER experience in a high-volume ED. Must be MD or DO and be capable of treating patients of all ages. Must have a current DEA. Must have and maintain current certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS by way of an American Heart training program (AHA or Red Cross).
