The duties include but are not limited to: Installs and performs alterations, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment fixtures. Installs, maintains and repairs electrical equipment, i.e. inside and outside electrical systems, inside and outside lighting systems, emergency power and lighting systems and heating systems. Installs and maintains outside overhead lighting in parking areas including working on poles. Keeps electrical motors in working order and performs repairs to electrical motors, controllers, switchboard panels. Installs overhead and underground electrical wire. Locates and corrects power failures and motor trouble on electrically operated machinery. Installs electrical additions and alterations to buildings as requested/required. Performs electrical and mechanical work in repairing and replacing parts, using standard and specialized tools and equipment. Operates volt meters, amp meters, and specialized meters. Maintains accurate records and submits records of time, labor, and materials via computer-based programs. Establishes and maintains effective working relationship with supervisors, foremen, and other employees. Completes work assignments without close supervision. Completes all projects with neatness and in conformance with standards or related trade. May be assigned other duties as required. THIS POSITION MAY BE REQUIRED TO WORK AFTER HOURS AND WEEKENDS WHEN NECESSARY. THIS POSITION MAY ALSO BE REQUIRED TO PERFORM DUTIES ON SHIFT WORK SCHEDULE. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a high school graduate from a regionally accredited school or possess a GED certificate. Must have five (5) years of experience as an electrician or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must have a journeyman electrician's certificate from the Board of Electrical Examiners. Must have general knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods, and practices of the electrical trade. Must have general knowledge, principals and theory of electricity. Must have general knowledge of electrical construction and maintenance practices, including installation of all sizes of electrical conduits, cable wires, switches, automatic starting, and pole line construction. Must have knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade. Must have knowledge of National, State and Local Electrical Codes applicable to installation maintenance and repair. Must possess ability to install, alter, repair, maintain and locate defects in a variety of electrical equipment/systems. Must be able to interpret and work from technical sketches and blueprints. Must have ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions along with some basic computer knowledge. Must be skilled in the care and use of standard tools, equipment and testing devices for the electrical trade. Must be skilled in locating and adjusting defects in electrical systems and equipment. Must possess a valid Alabama driver's license. May be required to obtain a Commercial Driver's License. Must pass insurability investigation into private and business driving record within any consecutive three-year time frame. SALARY : $47,181.00 Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo (or have undergone) an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law.
