Civil Engineer I
to join our growing team! This position may be filled out of our Boston, MA, Lowell, MA, Troy, NY, or Chicago, IL offices. We value in-person collaboration and offer a hybrid work environment. Hybrid employees work in the office at least two out of every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and are free to work from the office or home on other days.
Position Summary
The Civil Engineer I will work with a team of senior engineers, project developers, project managers, and engineering consultants to assist in reviewing, designing, and permitting community and utility-scale solar PV, wind, or energy storage projects. Primary duties include site due diligence, researching bylaws, site civil and stormwater design, creation of plan sets, and permit applications associated with the entitlement of renewable energy projects. There will be opportunities to gain experience in meeting with the local towns, as well as presenting to planning/zoning boards, state, and federal agencies.
Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Site due diligence, permitting path research, and drafting of civil consultation memos;Conducting site visits and completing the Site Walk Checklist;Preparing site plans (Site Plan Review, Special Permit/Variance/Notices of Intent) for submission to authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs);Analyzing and preparing Stormwater Management Reports in support of projects using HYDROCAD;Preparing Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan documentation (plans and narrative) and submit eNOI's;Assisting in the development of standard details, notes, and specifications, and reviewing design drawings;Coordinating the proposal and work of our survey partners;Coordinating consultant works such as wetlands delineation, cultural and historical specialists, arborists, etc.;As needed, accompanying senior engineers to meetings with local planning/zoning boards and with state agencies and other entities;Performing other duties as assigned.Desired Qualifications

BS or MS in Civil Engineering from an accredited engineering program or equivalent; EIT certificate or on-track to take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam;1-2 years of experience; recent engineering graduates with internship or COOP experience are encouraged to apply;Must have some experience and enjoy working with AutoCAD; Civil 3D is desired but not required;College coursework in hydrological modeling; HYDROCAD experience preferred;Familiarity or experience with field surveying and/or ecological surveys;High energy, resourceful, and organized with the ability to manage multiple projects. Ability to work in ad-hoc teams and take direction;Ability to occasionally visit project sites for pre-development evaluations;Ability to occasionally drive to evening meetings of project-approving authorities;Solid written, oral communication, and analytical skills;Passionate about renewable sources of energy.Compensation
New Leaf Energy compensates all employees in three ways: market-competitive base salary, plus above-market variable compensation, plus an equity-like program such that all employees experience the benefits of ownership. We use a data-driven and transparent methodology to calibrate compensation that is externally competitive and internally equitable, guided by the New Leaf Energy compensation manual, which is available to all employees.
Under our compensation framework, the likely base salary range for this position in the Lowell location is $75,160-$82,340 The on-target annual cash bonus associated with this position is an additional 10% percent of base salary. Your actual salary may be above, in, or below this range, depending on your location and experience.
