Job Title: Radiation Therapist Job Specialty: Radiology Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 08:00-16:30 Guaranteed Hours: Not specified Experience: Minimum 2 years License: ARRT certification Certifications: BLS certification from the American Heart Association Must-Have: Experience using Elekta equipment Job Description: - Administer radiation therapy as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. - Interact with patients, physicians, nurses, patient families, and colleagues. - Possess strong interpersonal communication skills. - Care for patients of all age groups, from newborns to geriatrics. - Help ease patient fears and apprehensions regarding radiation therapy. - Set up patients accurately for radiation treatment delivery. - Explain treatment expectations and patient responsibilities for accurate care. - Conduct daily warm-up of treatment machines and log any variations. - Check simulator operation and report any issues for proper functioning. - Properly position patients for simulation using immobilization devices. - Explain the simulation process and engage patient cooperation. - Produce acceptable radiographs for simulation purposes. - Safely tattoo patient's treatment area when necessary and document photographs. - Maintain audio and visual contact with patients. - Schedule patients for daily treatment sessions and ensure mark maintenance. - Explain potential adverse reactions and report them to a nurse or Oncologist. - Ensure the Radiation Oncologist reviews patient progress weekly. - Verify weekly weight checks and carry out portal localization films as prescribed. - Perform weekly chart checks to ensure accuracy in prescriptions and documentation. - Maintain neat, orderly, and adequately stocked treatment and simulation rooms. - Report supply needs to the Chief Radiation Therapist. - Participate in performance improvement activities. - Communicate effectively with medical staff and assist in patient transportation. - Attend all required hospital and departmental programs. This position requires a commitment to patient care and teamwork within a dynamic healthcare environment.
