Launched in 1974, Cell is the flagship journal of Cell Press. The scope of Cell is broad, and we publish exciting advances that range from the molecular to the clinical across several different topic areas within the life and biomedical sciences. Cell editors engage with the scientific community to catalyze scientific discovery and promote discourse. We provide scientists with valuable perspectives and candid feedback to help make their work clear, rigorous, and transparent so that readers can understand, trust, and build upon that work. We believe that science can have powerful and positive impacts on the environment, planet, human health and society, so we aim to enable science and scientists, whoever and wherever they are. About the Role

Cell has an opening for a scientific editor. We invite you to apply to join our editorial team! This position is open to editors at entry (where no editorial experience is needed) as well as more senior levels. Our team requests that you please submit a cover letter with your application.

Responsibilities

Evaluating and making decisions on research papers submitted to Cell.Working with authors and reviewers to publish exciting science across a range of topic areas.Engaging with the scientific community in their labs and at conferences. Learning about scientific developments, recruiting papers, and establishing relationships.Working with the Cell team on editorial processes, decision making and collaborative projects.Advocating for science, provide thought leadership, and influence the practice and direction of science and scientific communication.Building deep relationships with Cell Press journals on content and collaborative projects.Contributing to broader Cell Press and Elsevier initiatives.Requirements

Have a Ph.D. or M.D. with research experience in an area relevant to the journal. We are especially interested in candidates with a background in tumor immunology, cancer biology, clinical and translational research. We are open to all backgrounds covered by the scope of the journal. Prior editorial experience is not necessary but valued.Display broad interests, demonstrated love of science, and desire to learn. Understand the diverse science covered by Cell and demonstrate the ability to appreciate the issues and questions that drive different fields.Have a talent for clear communication. Help authors make their messaging clear, concise, and compelling. Enable readers understanding of the science is important and how it will impact their work.Display exceptional interpersonal skills. Collaboration and networking are core aspects of the job. This includes being a team player able to work as part of a group of editors.Demonstrate interest in scientific communication and an understanding of publishing trends.Be creative, are willing to experiment, and desire to improve.Able to organize, prioritize, and focus.Able and willing to travel for business needs such as conferences and institute visits.Work in a way that works for you
