Tesla Manufacturing Engineers have the important role of designing "The machine that builds the machine". We work with the cross-functional teams (design, quality, production, sustaining, and supply chain) throughout the entire lifecycle of a product (from initial design through prototype development and into full production) to develop high quality and efficient manufacturing equipment and processes that will produce battery modules for Tesla's cutting-edge power electronics.
Responsibilities
Develop manufacturing equipment and fixtures to support early-stage prototype buildsDetermine and procure equipment that is necessary for all manufacturing processes used to build the productWork with equipment integrators to design and manufacture equipment and fixtures for medium to high-volume productionManage suppliers during specification, design, buyoff and installation of manufacturing equipmentCharacterize and validate new equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floorDevelop new manufacturing processesDetermine layout of production workstations for product flow, ergonomics, and efficiencyPerform process analysis, DOE, PFMEA, line balancing activities, and capacity modeling/simulationProvide DFM (design for manufacturability) input to design team for process and yield improvementsCreate detailed manufacturing instructions to train technicians and line operators on new processes and equipmentRequirements
Experience as a hands-on mechanical/manufacturing/design engineer working on mechanical and/or electromechanical systemsExperience using 2D CAD tools for conceptual line design (AutoCAD) and 3D design for mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling (SolidWorks or CATIA)Experience with conveyance, transducer-based fastening systems, robotic systems (Fanuc preferred)Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipmentExperience providing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Automation (DFA)Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experienceCompensation and BenefitsBenefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
