Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the SVP of Global Supply Chain, and part of the larger Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing organization (PDM), the VP Global Commercial Supply Chain and Strategy will lead a team of supply chain professionals accountable for the (E2E) global commercial supply chain and strategy execution to ensure uninterrupted supply of Gilead’s commercial product portfolio from new product introduction stabilization through product lifecycle management. The role is accountable for the E2E planning and execution management of Gilead’s commercial products collaborating closely with all PDM functions including PDM strategy, RA, Tech Dev, Mfg ops, and QA as we move through the Lifecyle of a product. This role is accountable for the development for the S & OP and ES & OP working closely with clinical and commercial teams. This role is accountable for Global Supply Chain strategy, BCP, systems integration and master data management.
FOCUS AREAS:
Design, develop and execute SC Strategy and People Capability
This position is responsible for developing and directing the overall strategy of the following functions: commercial demand and planning, S &OP and ES & OP, Supply chain strategy and excellence continuous improvement, trade compliance and data management.
Develop and execute the supply chain strategy collaborating closely with peers, including inventory and drive efficiencies.
Evolve our SC capabilities to be on par with industry benchmarks.
Building Supply chain capability within the team to meet changing complexity of product portfolio.
Training and ongoing development strategy and implementation plan for the organization working closely with VP global clinical supply chain.
Process and Systems and execution:
Responsible for the integration of all corporate systems, policies, processes, and procedures. Investigate and recommend new and improved systems and processes where needed. Communicate and recommend to senior management on a routine basis.
Lead data management and data governance for PDM.
Responsible for leading the Plan-To-Make functions across Gilead for SAP, Rapid Response, and other systems, as applicable.
Accountable for implementing and maintaining performance management process that ensures uninterrupted supply of product to patient from API through to delivery to patient / hospital market warehouse.
Responsible for the capacity management program and analysis of Gilead’s internal and external manufacturing sites (including CMOs, PDM and Clinical, where clinical uses the same lines as commercial). Optimizes production capacities which support business volumes/growths and plant capability. Provide guidance to senior management.
Collaborate with commercial, site supply chains, Global External Manufacturing, (GEM), internal manufacturing operations, clinical, finance and external partners to drive supply chain excellence and efficiency. Ensure procurement, commercial, and logistics strategies and operational processes are aligned with supply and demand plans.
Accountable for service level agreement with commercial to ensure uninterrupted supply and KPI’s met and tracked on monthly quarterly and annual basis that feed into the PDM goals and KPI’s. Responsible for OTIF and driving continuous improvement activity in this area along with manufacturing and commercial as applicable. Closely works with IT, Quality, Technical, Legal, and financial teams in delivering supply to patients / hospitals / commercial warehouses.
Accountable for inventory policy, strategy, and execution that ensures OTIF to sites and commercial as required.
Lead the Sales and Operations Planning and Integrated Supply Chain Management Program (ISCM) process, to ensure alignment, strategic collaboration and communication occurs across functional departments.
Develop enhanced forecasting and advanced supply chain methods. Develops new applications for forecasting, scheduling, and inventory management Aligned to digital strategy.
Coordinates the activities of department and provides direction and assistance on resolution of complex issues, compliance issues, and potential problems related to demand and supply planning including production plans at sites, making, or recommending appropriate decisions consistent with strategic direction.
Lead trade compliance team and work with RA when liaison and interfaces with regulatory agencies required to ensure imports and exports meet regulatory requirements and supply OTIF.
Implement CT PAT
Provide Supply Chain leadership to support product transfers, avoid demand, and supply gaps. Support new product launches led by Global Clinical Supply and agree plan as it transfers to commercial planning in steady state. Collaborate and communicate with key business partners to manage product lifecycle management, patient needs and financial targets.
Support integration of new companies and external products into the supply chain network.
Accountable for BCP across the global supply chain linked with PDM risk management in Global Clinical Supply chain and PDM strategy team.
Assesses business continuity risks within the supply base and develops strategies to offset and mitigate against such risks.
Performs critical simulations as needed to mitigate supply issues/strategies. Responsible for keeping key stakeholders informed at all times of critical and strategic inventory issues.
Ensure SOPs are in place to ensure uninterrupted supply, plan do check act process (PDCA) in place for continuous improvement, following quality management system.
Skillset:
Typically requires a BA or BS degree and minimum 20+ years of relevant experience in related field. An MA/MBA degree is preferred.
Knowledge:
Must be able to develop complex concepts, techniques, and standards.
Must be able to develop solutions to complex problems which require an in-depth degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovativeness. Challenges are frequently unique, and solutions may serve as precedent for future decisions, which affect the entire organization.
Must have in-depth expertise international trade compliance.
Must be able to interpret, execute, and recommend modifications to department policies.
Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to deal across several multinational agencies, sites, and organizations. Must have demonstrated experiences working with and influencing senior & executive management.
Experience:
Must have 20 years+ experience in manufacturing/operations environment, Supply Chain, or Materials Management. Strong knowledge of Regulatory, Legal (contracts) and Financial/SOX dimensions and linkages to and with the Planning Organization.
Knowledge of pharmaceutical materials and general manufacturing processes is highly desired.
Specialized or technical knowledge in SAP and Microsoft Office Suites; also have APICS certification.
Solid understanding of current industry trends.
