TitleSystem Director of Nursing, Women & Children's
Working with the Sr. VP COO/CNO is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the operations for the Women and Children's areas of Bronson Methodist Pediatric Hospital, Accountable for budgets, area structure, quality, service improvement, work environment .and the area's culture. Ensures follow up and closure on identified issues and concerns from patients, reports of concern, medical and clinical staff. Coaches, mentors and supports leadership team members to improve skill sets, leadership skills and prepares succession plan for each position. Establishes and maintains a collegial , collaborative environment between nursing, physicians, clinical and non-clinical support team members to ensure a high quality experience for patients and for the team members working in the environment. System accountability for the care of women and children from a professional practice, process and standardization of care.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing required, Master degree required. Area of focus preferred in Nursing, Administration or Business.Certification in specialty preferred. Working knowledge of nursing standards a mustFive to seven years progressively more responsible experience in the health care field. Such experience must include management one or more areas of pediatric or women's services at least at the managerial levelMembership in professional organization MONE and AONEMust be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan.Successful candidate should have email, word processing and spreadsheet skills. Interacts with top management, important outsiders, and others in situations where major policy matters, programs, employee relation's issues and operational affairs are discussed and/or decisions made. Contacts require considerable tact and communication skills in order to negotiate with, gain the acceptance of and/or change the thinking of others in difficult and complex situations. Multiple interactions and projects with community resources and agencies.
Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time. The job produces some physical demands. Typical of jobs that include regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and some lifting of light weight objects.
Participates in nursing and organizational policy formulation and decision-making.Works with managers accountable to the director and members of the medical staff as appropriate in the development of goals and plans for the organizational components for which he or she is responsible.
Develops, approves, and (when necessary) secures approval of policies designed to ensure the attainment of agreed-upon goals for areas of responsibility. Ensures the development of the procedures/processes necessary to implement approved policy.
Facilitates participation of staff in nursing and organizational policy formulation and decision-makingProvides guidance and support to the unit shared governance councils in implementing decisions that improve patient care, patient safety and increases professional practice. Provides resources necessary for implementation of shared governance activities.
Accepts organizational accountability for services provided to recipients.Collaborates and consults with the Medical Directors and other departments/services as appropriate to solve operations problems and to improve services to the medical staff.
Receives and investigates all customer feedback concerning the department and its personnel. Takes appropriate corrective action if necessary. Ensures that services are at all times provided in a considerate and courteous fashion.
Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care.Responsible for the development, implementation and continuous organizational quality performance improvement in areas he/she is responsible for.
Ensures that all quality control test and procedures are conducted and documented.
Monitors care of multi-cultural patients, and facilitate changes to improve delivery of patient care as needed.
Provides guidance for and supervision of personnel accountable to the nurse director.Rounds in units providing visibility and accessibility to the Director for all shifts
Coordinates nursing services with the services of other health care disciplines.Participates in a variety of ad hoc and ongoing committees.
Advocates for rights of patients and families ensuring fair and ethical treatment.
Supports and participates in assuring healthy work environment and equitable cae delivery for all patients.
Participates in the recruitment, selection and retention of personnel.Hires and mentors managerial personnel accountable to the director and advises them in planning the appropriate staffing for their areas of responsibility. Utilizes patient acuity and staff preparation to ensure appropriate scope of practice is maintained for each job classification.
Promotes retention of personal through recognition of positive performance
Evaluates, develops and (when necessary) disciplines and discharges subordinates.
Assumes responsibility for staffing and scheduling personnel. Assignments reflect appropriate utilization of personnel taking into account patient acuity and staff preparation.Ensures that nursing staff members are working within their legal scope of practice.
Directs the design and establishment of appropriate management control procedures to monitor work volume, efficiency standards, the quality of services provided and other management concern for areas of responsibility, Reviews records and reports and initiates corrective actions, requests special analyses and or changes control procedures when necessary.
Responsible for the development of an effective departmental organizational structure including (a) efficient work flow patterns, (b) delineation of duties/responsibilities, (c) suitable staffing levels, (d) appropriate supervision, and (e) mechanisms for timely communication of pertinent information.
Assures and participates in leadership rounding on weekends. Leader is to be on call for the weekend and present one day of that weekend for accessibility and leadership needs identified in the areas of Women and Children's.
Assures appropriate orientation, education, credentialing, and continuing professional development for personnel.Evaluates performance of personnel.Participates in planning and monitoring the budget for their defined areas.Develops and secures approval of a coordinated budget for areas of responsibility, and guides managers accountable to the director in the development of their budgets as necessary.
Administers or delegates the administration of budgets, approving expenditures, reviewing reports, etc.
Ensures efficacious use of resource and meets budget targets.
Participates and involves the nursing staff in evaluative research activities.Foster a climate conducive to educational experience for nursing and other students.Remains abreast of the developments in the field of nursing and management by pursing a program of self-development. Initiates the integration of advancements when practicable and cost effective.Participates in community committees, projects and events that support women and children in the community.
