We are currently looking to hire a
Sr Manager, Farm and Raw Milk (Pennsylvania) !
The Farm and Raw Milk Sr. Manager will be responsible for monitoring and working with organic farms to improve milk quality and animal welfare, where needed. The successful candidate will become a member of the Quality and Food Safety Milk Team dedicated to driving meaningful improvement in quality and animal welfare across our network of 400 farms. Work hours will be split between on-farm work (educating, training, and troubleshooting) and office-based work (analyzing data, developing educational resources, and managing quality compliance tasks).
This is a remote position (preferably in Pennsylvania) with up to 50-75% expected travel.
In this role, you will be responsible for:Performing on-farm milk quality investigations to troubleshoot and identify root cause analysis on farms in New York and Pennsylvania and possibly other states if neededDevelop and manage pilot projects exploring new methods to monitor or evaluate animal welfare and milk quality on organic dairy farmsDevelop and track the completion of corrective action plans, as necessary, to meet Horizon Organic Dairy welfare standardsWork with state and federal agencies to assure Horizon Organic farms comply with all state and federal requirementsDevelop and provide training opportunities for organic dairy producers in order to drive improvement in dairy welfare on organic farmsProvide technical support to farms to achieve quality objectives and work to prevent deviations from the Horizon Organic Dairy standardsInvestigate, respond to, and track milk and cream tanker rejections at plantsPerform audits on milk truck haulers to ensure proper sampling and collection procedures are followedPerform audits on cream supplier plants to ensure quality and food safety compliancePerform F.A.R.M. evaluations, as needed, on Horizon Organic farms and follow up on necessary action plansOther duties as assignedThe base compensation range for this position is $120,000 - $140,000 commensurate with experience.
About You
Professional Experience/Education needed:
Veterinary degree with a minimum of 4 years practice experience in food animal medicineBachelor's degree (or greater) in biology, chemistry, food science, or related agriculture field and a minimum of 5 years of experience in the dairy industry will also be consideredGood knowledge of microbiology in the milk and dairy contextGrade A regulatory, technical, and scientific knowledge of dairy processes and equipmentExperience with auditing, certified with F.A.R.M. and/or PAACO preferredKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong quality and analytical skillsStrong project management/organizational skillsSuccess in problem solving and critical thinkingAnticipates and is pro-activeEnjoys developing and delivering educational materialsPassion for excellenceStrong communication and motivational skillsFluency in Spanish preferred but not requiredSelf-motivated with the ability to function with some autonomyPassionate about milk quality and animal welfareWorking knowledge of the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance preferredAligns with Horizon Organic Dairy's culture, behaviors, and attitudesTravel required up to 50% or as required by project success and schedule
