The Director of Nursing (DON) assumes authority,responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in thefacility. The Director of Nursing oversees the clinical support staff to ensurethat the standards of patient care are maintained.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops, maintains, and implements nursing policies andprocedures that conform to current standards of nursing practice, facilityphilosophy, and operational policies while maintaining compliance with stateand federal laws and regulations
Participates in the recruitment and selection of nursingpersonnel and assures sufficient staff are hired
Evaluates the work performance of all nursing personnel andimplements discipline according to operational policies and in collaborationwith human resource department at facility
Responsible for orientation of new organization personnel,either directly or by delegating to another qualified staff member
Implements and evaluates the orientation program for neworganization personnel
Ensures delivery of compassionate quality care and nursingsupervision
Oversees all direct and indirect patient services providedby clinical personnel
Oversees nursing schedules to assure they meet patient careneeds, regulatory requirements and budgetary standards
Coordinates and/or develops on-going QA activities fornursing services to monitor nursing compliance with standards and regulatoryrequirements through rounds, interviews, investigation and record review audits
Compiles summary of findings for the Quality Assurancecommittee per facility and program policy
Communicates and interprets policies and procedures tonursing staff, and monitors staff practices and implementation
Establishes, implements, and monitors the infection controlprogram in conjunction with state regulations, CDC guidelines and facilitypolicy and procedures
Recommends and collaborates in in-service education programsto promote staff development
Collaborates with physicians, consultants, communityagencies, and institutions to improve the quality of services and to resolveidentified problems
Assists in the development of organization goals andmonitors progress toward goals for assigned areas of responsibility
Ensures adequate equipment is available for the provision ofpatient services. Makes recommendation for new products and equipment
Ensures all customer concerns and comments related toclinical care are handled in an appropriate and timely manner
Serves as the on-site coordinator for all state, federal,accreditation and audit surveys
Develops plan of correction for all survey deficiencies
Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
Current/valid Registered Nurse license in state ofassignment required
Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred
Prior supervisor or leadership in nursing experiencepreferred
Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct professionaladministrative personnel.
Knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations
Ability to make presentations before top management, publicgroups, and staff.
Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicable
Current CPR if applicable
TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site
Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least 18 years of age
