the application process for external applicants .JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:The Vehicle Spectrum Dominance Department in the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking a motivated, self-starting Applications Developer to join our team to design, develop, implement, document, and maintain software applications, test, debug, install, and modify new or existing applications, and design and implement new features and/or integrations for existing software. This position would work out of our State College, PA office.ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:Design and implement secure, automated infrastructure solutions for high-performance computing environments thru Agile software developmentThe entry-level DevOps individual will work as part of a team to perform and review pull requests, unit tests, and occasional documentation as neededWork with and maintain our continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to allow for frequent, trouble-free deployments of infrastructure codeConfigure and optimize various compute resources and networks including bare metal and virtualized/container environmentsProvide demonstrations of your work to the internal team and occasionally external customersCoordinate with the team to identify risks, issues, requirements, and design solutions for project-level activity on a daily basisThis job will be filled at the advanced or senior professional level, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires an Bachelors' degree or higher plus four years’ related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience for the advanced professional level. Additional experience and/or education required for higher level positions.Required skills/experience areas include:Software programming with a high-level programming language such as Python or C++, MATLABSoftware development with tools to perform configuration management, issue tracking, and testingCisco Security+, CCNA CertificationsRouting, Switching, and Enterprise level network management.Experience in the following areas is strongly preferred:Linux-based infrastructures and system administrationKnowledge of DevOps tools/practicesInfrastructure/automation via scripts languages such as Ansible or PuppetConfiguration management via Git, Bitbucket, or GitLabContainer/orchestration technologies such as Docker and KubernetesProven troubleshooting skills with the ability to spot issues before they become problemsGood communication skillsWell-organized, independent and ready to work with fairly minimal supervisionAdditional responsibilities for higher level position includesExperienced with RADAR Operation and Maintenance, AN/SPS-64, AN/SPS-73, Furuno, Garmin, AN/SPY-3Experienced with Navy LINK systems, CDLMS, LINK-16, LINK-11, HAWKLINK, DAMAExperienced with Navy Shipboard Communications Systems, NMT, SITE-TV, GBS, WSC-3, HFRGFamiliar with Linux UbuntuJourneyman Electrician Certified by United Services Military Apprenticeship ProgramHold Navy NEC 728A COMSEC Maintenance TechnicianHold Navy NEC 794A Communications Technician NSWTS Security Clearance, SCI eligiblePrior leadershipAdvanced professional level candidates will have experience with the following tools/technologies; higher-level candidates will have advanced
