Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a Data Engineer to join a growing team dedicated to collecting and transforming data from the United States Nuclear Navy for analytics throughout the Laboratory.As a Data Engineer, you will be part of a team responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and maintaining the Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) process for incoming shipboard data used in naval nuclear propulsion systems in a Hadoop environment.You will evaluate new and emerging technologies to deliver scalable solutions to transforming shipboard data in an enterprise-wide data warehouse from which operational metrics and support analytics can be easily and reliably generated.Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering or science related field; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering or science related field.Preferred Skills

Knowledge of distributed technologies, such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark.Experience in Linux shell scripting and software development using languages such as SQL and Python.Experience in optimization and performance tuning of ETL workloads and understanding of database internals.Compensation And Benefits

$67,800 - $103,800 annually. Note the salary information provided above is a general guideline only. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets.
