Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr Principal Engineer Systems Architect – Global Algorithm Architect (24-316) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability and is integral to all system ground and flight tests.
Provide technical expertise and support in developing and analyzing complex algorithms in support of new BMDS capabilities as part of the Global Agile Release Train (ART). The candidate will assist in the execution, analysis, and trades of Track Server algorithms over large data sets. Report to the Global ART EPM and be responsible to the Global Architect Lead for adhering to architectural guidance as part of implementation. Travel is expected to Schriever SFB or other CONUS locations to interact with team members and customers.
Essential Functions:
Working in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions.
Excellent communication skills (written and oral) are required.
Experience working in missile defense or related domains is required.
Proven track record of successfully applying system engineering principles to develop product solutions.
Experienced in technical interaction with government customers.
Basic Qualifications:
An active Top-Secret clearance is required to start.
8 years experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Math, Science, or Engineering focusing on Data Analytics or a related field; 6 years with a Master's degree; or 12 years experience in lieu of a degree.
Algorithm design techniques and Kinematic/Dynamic System modeling are must-haves.
Experience with Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence, Optimal control, State Estimation, Statistical Analysis, Stochastic processes, Target Tracking/Correlation, and Orbital Mechanics.
Well-versed in utilizing Data Analytics to analyze system performance on large data sets.
Experience in developing Algorithm Description Documents (ADDs) is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with BMDS systems is highly desired.
Direct experience in one or more of the following algorithm domains is highly desired: target tracking, target classification, and target prediction.
Working knowledge of software development processes and transitioning algorithms into production software is strongly desired.
