Job Summary
The IT Disaster Recovery Backup Analyst ensures data reliability, security, and continuity through meticulous backup procedures, disaster recovery planning, and testing. The role involves managing, monitoring, and maintaining data backup and recovery solutions to safeguard the organization’s critical assets and ensure minimal downtime during system failures or disasters. This individual will work closely with IT teams to ensure compliance with data security policies and to develop strategies for efficient recovery from data loss events.
This position is required to report to the SHI Somerset NJ and SHI Austin office location as determined by SHI management.
ResponsibilitiesInclude but not limited to:
Backup Management :
Implement and manage backup strategies, ensuring timely and accurate backups across all systems
Perform regular monitoring of backup systems and address any failures or issues
Maintain and manage backup schedules to ensure that all critical systems are protected
Disaster Recovery Planning :
Assist in creating and maintaining disaster recovery (DR) plans for critical business systems
Collaborate with IT teams to develop and test DR scenarios, ensuring readiness during a disaster
Evaluate and update DR plans based on technological changes and business needs
Data Recovery :
Respond promptly to backup and recovery requests, ensuring timely data restoration when needed
Analyze and troubleshoot recovery issues and escalate when necessary
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
Identify potential risks of data loss or system outages and propose solutions to mitigate them
Regularly audit backup systems to ensure compliance with organizational policies and standards
Compliance and Documentation:
Ensure all backups comply with company policies, regulatory standards, and industry best practices
Document backup and recovery processes to ensure clarity for audits and incident management
Monitoring and Reporting:
Monitor backup logs and system alerts, providing regular reports on system performance, backup success rates, and anomalies
Maintain and report on DR testing results, including success rates and improvement areas
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field
3-5 years of experience in disaster recovery, backup management, or a related role
Experience with backup software and systems (e.g., Veritas, Veeam, NetBackup, Commvault)
Knowledge of disaster recovery planning, business continuity, and risk management
Familiarity with cloud-based backup and storage solutions
Required Skills

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
Ability to work in high-pressure situations and respond to urgent recovery needs
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with IT disaster recovery frameworks and methodologies
Certifications such as Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or ITIL
Experience with scripting and automation in backup management
Familiarity with compliance regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, or SOX
Unique Requirements
On-call availability for disaster recovery scenarios
May require after-hours support during emergencies or scheduled backup testing
Additional Information
The estimated annual pay range for this position is $60,000 - $90,000. The compensation for this position is dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location and, therefore, will vary from individual to individual. Benefits may include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending.
