Project description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Network Engineer specializing in internet routing to join our team. The ideal candidate will be an expert in designing, implementing, managing, and troubleshooting large-scale, complex network infrastructures, with a deep understanding of IP routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and others.
Internet Architecture Knowledge: Solid understanding of internet architecture, including internet exchange points (IXPs) and transit networks - is absolutely required for this position. This role will primarily involve working on our internet edge, collaborating with various carriers, transit networks, internet exchange points, and DDoS protection. Candidates with experience in Internet Service Providers, Cloud Service Providers, or Colocation Providers are ideal.
We are looking for someone local to the Minnesota (Chaska) area as we would like to have local hands at our data centers - within 30-45 minutes of travel at most. The candidate may need to go to one of our offices to stage equipment for projects or provide hands-on support.
Responsibilities
Coordinate and manage projects related to Call Centers, WAN, IPSec B2B VPNs, ISP/Edge Networks, and Cloud Services.
Develop and maintain project plans, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project milestones and deliverables.
Create comprehensive technical documentation for systems, processes, and configurations.
Develop user guides, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base articles to facilitate efficient support and troubleshooting.
Foster effective communication and collaboration with internal teams, external vendors, and stakeholders.
Serve as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring a clear understanding of project goals and status.
SKILLS
Must have
Designing and Implementing Network Infrastructure: Developing and implementing the architecture for internet routing within an organization.
Network Optimization and Scaling: Continuously analyzing network performance and making adjustments to optimize efficiency and reliability.
Routing Protocol Management: Configuring and managing routing protocols like BGP, OSPF, or MPLS.
Technical Documentation and Network Diagrams: Authoring comprehensive technical documentation, including detailed network diagrams and procedural guides.
Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution: Identifying and resolving complex network issues, including those related to internet routing.
Disaster Recovery and Redundancy Planning: Developing and implementing strategies for network redundancy and disaster recovery.
Mentorship and Team Leadership: Leading and mentoring junior network engineers and other technical staff.
Staying Informed of Technological Advances: Keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in network technology and internet routing.
Nice to have
Active CCNP or higher certification.
Proficiency in working with Cisco routers/switches and Arista equipment.
Python programming with network automation experience.
Familiarity with using Git and source code management software such as GitHub.
Strong leadership and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
