Distribution System Specialist

Performs intermediate skilled trades work participating in the maintenance and repair of water mains and service lines, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Distribution System Superintendent.Responsibilities:
Installs new water taps, service connections, meters, valves, and hydrants.Reads meters on a monthly cycle, locks customer meters for non-payment of bills.Performs routine maintenance on hydrants, valves, meters/boxes, and end of the waterline blow-off assemblies.Locates utility water lines for contractors, homeowners, and construction.Repairs water mains and services line leaks.Performs ground maintenance at distribution facilities, water tower sites, and pump stations.Performs other assigned duties.Qualifications:
General knowledge of the materials, methods and techniques used in water distribution system maintenance and repair.General knowledge of the occupational hazards and of the necessary safety precautions of the work.Ability to use hand tools and power tools.Ability to operate a backhoe, jackhammer, and other large pieces of equipment.Ability to read blueprints and specifications.Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local officials, associates, and customers.Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
