To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualifications requirements:

EducationGL-09:Master’s or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. Graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

GL-10:There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.

ExperienceGL-09 and GL-10:One year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Some examples of this qualifying experience are:

GL-09:

Experience in maintaining the armory where weapons and ammunition are stored, including rifles, carbines, stun guns, less lethal munitions, pistols, riot shotguns, gas guns, ammunition for the above weapons, chemical agents, riot equipment, and protective gear.

Experience in analyzing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic locks; locking systems; engineering blueprints; weapon repair, and schematics.

Experience in maintaining tel-key systems for daily and emergency use; ensuring all institution keys are properly issued, and that documentation is accurately maintained and coincides with daily key count.

GL-10:

Experience that includes knowledge in training institution staff in all areas of security to maintain a high level of sound operational and structural security at the institution.

Experience in reading and comprehending technical publications, drawings, engineering blueprints, and schematics of buildings.

Experience that includes technical knowledge of prison locks and locking systems, including their application and use within a correctional setting.

Experience in analyzing and assessing the current condition of equipment and feasibility towards repair or replacement.

Experience in handling and maintaining a high level of technical and operational expertise in the use of all emergency entry equipment, riot control equipment, chemical munitions, stun munitions, and all special operations response team equipment.

Combination of Education & Experience:GL-09 Only:Have a combination of education and experience. This experience must have equipped you with the qualifications to perform the major duties of this position, as described above. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.
