Brief DescriptionProvides technical and functional support for specialized department applications and databases to include developing queries and reports to retrieve data from databases and working with end users, other technical employees, and outside entities as needed to resolve issues related to department technology systems.
Detailed DescriptionDiagnoses, resolves and documents application, database and other technology-related problems and their resolution in a timely and accurate fashion; identifies requirements and system solutions and provides end-users with issue resolution on a daily basis; provides 1st level application issue resolution including training and provides end users with systems specifications and instructions. Maintains the health of department applications and databases by monitoring performance issues and maintenance of databases including consulting with users to identify current operating procedures and to clarify system objectives; collaborates with other IT staff to meet objectives and to adhere to defined business requirements and statutes. Coordinates vendor upgrades with department management and IT groups; applies system upgrades and patches; maintains program customization details; facilitates process to ensure system continuity. Coordinates and performs installation of new computer hardware and software. Coordinates and sponsors vendor VPN and CJIS clearance requests with Dallas County Service Desk; provides vendors with remote access issue resolution; and maintains active vendor account from expiration. Serves as a liaison between department, IT groups, vendors, and Commissioners Court to establish and maintain working relationships, seek solutions to technology issues/problems, and ensure compliance with County-wide standards. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Job RequirementsEducation and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, MIS, Mathematics, Business, Engineering, or other related field of study. Three (3) years of experience in an Information Technology environment, which utilizes multiple subsystems, including two (2) years of application database support or server support in a Structured Query Language (SQL). Knowledge of SQL relational databases, client-server concepts, application support standards and database requirements for high availability, multi-function environments. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Ability to work independently and with others, establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with end users, departments, IT groups and vendors. Based on the applicable position, prior application support in one of the following specialized areas preferred but not required: • County Elections • Forensic Pathology and Laboratory Science • Health and Human Services • County Juvenile • Law Enforcement. Experience with specific technology software preferred but not required depending on the specialized department. Must pass a background check for security-sensitive positions. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and good driving record. Will be required to provide a copy of 10-year driving history. Must maintain a good driving record and remain in compliance with Article II, Subdivision II of Chapter 90 of the Dallas County Code. Individuals holding or considered for a position which has, or may have, access to criminal justice databases including the FBI Criminal Justice Information Systems, NCIC/TCIC and similar databases, must pass a national fingerprint-based records check prior to placement in such position and may be denied placement in such positions and/or access to such systems. Incumbents must also maintain the ability to pass the records check while in the position or until such time that the Commissioners Court and the County Civil Service Commission deem this position no longer has this requirement. On-call 24/7. Typically works in a standard office environment and non-standard environment.
