The Principal Project engineer is responsible for managing capital and expense improvement projects, within cost and schedule expectations, from initial scoping through design, installation, and handover to the owner of the new or modified facilities at the Pensacola Specialty Elastomers Plant. The project engineer leverages both internal and external resources as needed to define required scope, develop project cost and justification, and obtain funding appropriation for the project. The engineer also manages the design phase, equipment procurement activities, contractor bidding and selection process, and ultimately the successful execution and handover of the defined scope.
Primary FunctionsSupport monthly project cost forecasting and annual capital plan developmentCoordinate with maintenance and engineering teams to update capital plans as neededManage execution of the annual capital plan per cost and schedule expectationsLead development of project scope, cost estimate, and economic justification to support appropriation requests for assigned projects.Manage design, procurement, contracting, execution, commissioning, and turnover activities to ensure successful implementation of assigned projects.Apply proven technology and best practices in project design and implementation to improve the safety, quality, process and cost of manufacturing premium polymer productsIdentify the need for outside resources (subject matter experts) as required and effectively engage those resources to support assigned project implementationEffectively coordinate and communicate with internal and external resources during the design and execution of assigned projectsEnsure all project activities are carried out in accordance with approved project management procedures and appropriate engineering standards, and that projects meet all statutory requirementsInteract effectively at all levels of the organization and maintain proactive working relationships with other departments including: Procurement, Operations, and Maintenance to ensure business and project goals are achievedResponsible for the safety performance of all personnel, regardless of employer, involved in the execution of assigned projectsProvide leadership in ensuring compliance with management of change guidelinesRequired QualificationsBachelor of Science degree in a related engineering field from an accredited universityMinimum 8 years project engineering or project management experience in an industrial/manufacturing environmentExcellent verbal and written communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively to all levels of an organization and maintain productive vendor relationshipsExcellent time management skills, with evidence of prioritizing to deliver the right outcomes; highly collaborative in approach; effective in building strong working relationshipsGood working knowledge of procurement processes and SAPPreferred Knowledge / Skills / ExperienceKnowledge of basic economics and justification calculationsStrong technical writing skillsKnowledge in management of change work processesFamiliarity with manufacturing operations (chemical, refining, etc.) and associated safe work practicesFamiliarity with equipment common to the manufacturing industry (pumps, exchangers, valves, piping, etc.)
