Overview
Data Stewards improve the value of the organization's data assets and improve the business outcomes of data-driven processes. Data Stewards use Data Governance assets to create and maintain documentation of the organization's data in terms of business glossaries, definitions, categorization, sources, lineage, quality, appropriate use, and business need. Data Stewards advocate data quality across the organization, serve as data subject matter experts, and promote trust in the organization's data.Responsibilities
Participates in the execution of the Data Governance Program for Emerging Market, working with Data Owners, other Data Stewards, and data consumers, the Information Technology department, and external partners.Assists business and technical teams with the identification of essential data elements and their authoritative source; assists with the recognition and application of appropriate business rules for systems; and ensures that related documentation is maintained and accessible.Promotes and coordinates the development, documentation, and implementation of standard data definitions, authoritative data sources, and standards, policies and procedures that ensure data integrity and quality.Creates and maintains documentation of data flows, quality assessments, appropriate data usage patterns, and limitations.Communicates Data Governance Program information and policies to the organization, ensuring Emerging Market’s workforce awareness and understanding of data governance methodology and standards.Measures and reports on key metrics concerning data and data governance.Works with data stakeholders to identify data quality or integrity issues. Ensure that data concerns are appropriately escalated, logged and analyzed to determine root cause and optimal resolution; work with data stakeholders, the Information Technology department and external partners as needed to implement timely remediation.Acts as a resource and subject matter expert (SME) for Emerging Market and external partners on data governance topics and issues.Develops and refines appropriate reports which demonstrate data governance program activities and results for leadership and stakeholders.Oversee data stewardship projects from ideation through implementation, and monitoring.Measures and communicates the value and maturity of the data governance program.Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in insurance, math, economics, business, or computer science. Advanced degree in statistics, actuarial science, or applied mathematics preferred. Continuous learning, as defined by the Company’s learning philosophy, is required. Certification or progress toward certification is highly preferred and encouraged. Relevant demonstrated experience and skills will be considered in lieu of degrees.Six years of experience working in a data governance or Data Analyst role, or similarly supporting the business.Proficiency in the use of computers and company standard software specific to position, including Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.Strong SQL programming skills, database management skills, and familiarity with common database architectures and platforms.Strong data analysis skills; demonstrated ability to apply analysis to answer complex questions and solve complex business problems.Ability to effectively communicate highly technical information to non-technical audiences.Ability to use independent judgment and initiative, and to anticipate needs of Data Owners, consumers, and stakeholders, accomplishing tasks without direction.Ability to work effectively as a member of a team, including on large, complex programs/projects.Strong knowledge of insurance and insurance business processes.Ability to establish workflows, manage multiple projects, meet necessary deadlines, and work without supervision.Exercise sufficient discretion and independent judgment with a wide degree of creativity and latitude.Ability to apply the principles of independent logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and make actionable strategic recommendations.Ability to maintain confidentiality.Advanced knowledge of data governance principles, roles, and key data governance assets.Ability to lead a project team in the full scope of project assignments.
