POSITION: Airport Maintenance Technician - Electrician REPORTS TO: Maintenance Manager LOCATION: ALB AIRPORT: Albany International Airport SUMMARY Repairs and maintains airport electrical systems, components associated with the airport environment and facilities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties maybe assigned by the Electrical Superintendent, snow removal maybe assigned on an emergency basis. Repairs and services various airport electrical systems, including REIL, PAPI lights; rotating beacon; runway and taxiway lighting; signage; building electrical systems; low and high voltage power distribution in buildings and airfield; constant current regulators; series transformers; sewage pump station controllers and motors; high voltage switch gear; power transformers; generators and transfer switches; frequency controllers; alarm systems and motorized valves. Troubleshoots and repairs electric control circuits, including relays, contactors, limit switches, photo eyes and loop detectors. Routinely inspects electrical systems and equipment in airport buildings and facilities to detect code violations, hazards, and to identify maintenance requirements and report to Electrical Superintendent. Assures installations are consistent with drawings, specifications, local and national electrical codes. Must attend various training classes, including safety training, as required. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Applicants must pass a mandatory 10 year background security check. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Two year degree in electrical construction and maintenance with an additional three years of work experience or five year trade school program with journeyman certification or high school diploma (general education development (GED) certificate) with five years experience as a commercial or industrial electrician. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret blueprints and documents, such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to solve basic algebra and geometry problems. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. LICENSES Must posses and maintain a valid NYS drivers licenses as a condition of employment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described must be met by an employee to successfully perform this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger; handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear; and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to sit; climb ladders or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
