Position Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer applies a working knowledge of engineering fundamentals to the division's manufacturing activities under the direction the Manufacturing Program Manager. The Manufacturing Engineer will be required to regularly interact with the customer(s) and various company (OII-MSD) personnel including those in Engineering, Quality Assurance (QA), Manufacturing, Purchasing, Contracts, Shipping and Receiving, to provide technical support through all phases of a product lifecycle (from quoting to delivery).
Duties & Responsibilities
EXPECTATIONS OF THIS FUNCTION ARE:
Technical lead for developing quotes. This includes: technical writing; reading, understanding and interpreting drawings, specifications, and contracts; communicating with customer for technical clarifications; developing Work Breakdown Structures; understanding in-house fabrication capabilities; identification and selection of potential suppliers; developing subcontractor / supplier Requests For Quote; provide input to Buy-Make decisions.Liaison between customer, project management and the shop to support procurement, fabrication, assembly, testing, inspection, and certification. This includes: providing technical assistance to shop and suppliers; troubleshooting; writing and resolution of non-conformances; and design and analysis of shop fixtures.Develop and improve internal manufacturing processes to incorporate lessons learned, to support division quality goals, to improve efficiencies and reduce costs, and to support growth opportunities.Support audits (internal, customer, and supplier), including resolution of audit findings.Provide regular status reports to the various Project Teams for the multiple projects he/she is assigned.

Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Structural or Manufacturing) from accredited college or university.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of two years practical experience in Engineering, work experience with the US Department of Defense projects is desirable but not required.Computer skills using Microsoft Office products required.Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills are required.Strong technical writing skills are preferred.Proficiency using CAD software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE:
Required: Demonstrated knowledge of typical manufacturing processes involved in fabrication of simple to complex products, including machinery (CNC work centers, lathes, mills, etc), and fabrication equipment (welding, fitting, etc.).Required: Ability to understand and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).Required: Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex drawings.Required: Demonstrated knowledge with metrology tools. Laser tracking and laser scanning techniques are preferred.Preferred: Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and CNC programming skills.Preferred: Demonstrated knowledge of military, and commercial, construction and material specifications applicable to Submarine or Deep Submergence System work.Preferred: Experience or working knowledge with shop floor tracking software such as MRP/ERP software systems.

Candidate will have to perform in an ISO-9000 rated company in a rapidly changing and demanding atmosphere.U.S. Citizenship is required, or ability to obtain a U.S. DOD Secret Security Clearance.Must be willing to travel up to 10%.Must be a U.S. citizen who is not a dual citizen of any other country.

Primarily indoors during the day and occasionally at night.Frequently working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.When outdoors, humidity is frequently above 90%.Noise is over 85 decibels.Light is intense/glare.Occasional exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.Frequent exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases.Includes exposure to contaminants.Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures.Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people.Requires working indoors in non-controlled environmental conditions.Almost exclusively indoors during the day and occasionally at night .Occasional exposure to airborne dust in the work place.Work surface is stable (flat).
