The Opportunity
This leadership role is part of the Category Management team at Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC). The Director, Category Management will be responsible for developing the strategy and providing the direction for Procurement and Supply Chain management activities for all ADC components. This person will drive "One Abbott Procurement" vision throughout Abbott's multiple divisions globally, and influence reapplication of synergies across divisions. They will work closely with key stakeholders in both Corporate and Divisional organizations to develop effective cost enhancement strategies and implement strategic sourcing plans. Nurture stakeholder relationships by serving as a critical business partner, develop joint-strategies to meet business requirements and provide services that exceed expectations. The Director will leverage extensive market and supplier knowledge to drive lower Total Cost of Ownership. This role will represent Abbott within the industry and community.
What You'll Work On
Primary point of contact for overall category needs. Responsible for prioritizing demand globally across the category.Provides insight to the business unit(s) on how to best develop and leverage Supplier capabilities for the organization(s).Proactively identifies and implements new business opportunities, process improvement, and cost efficiencies.Develops and drives category strategies and translates business strategy in an aligned One Procurement strategy.Champions change and innovation. Stimulates creativity and innovation in others. Open to new ideas. Supports those who initiate change and take risks. Builds a culture of change management with One Procurement. Promotes a Global Perspective.Defines category procurement strategy for ADC, aligned with overall strategy.Drive Total Cost of Ownership reductions for category through analytics and internal partnerships.Coordinate across corporate, functions, and divisions to share best practices and adherence to guidelines.Anticipate the overall needs of multiple business units, and negotiate and influence an accepted portfolio that meets the most strategic needs of the category.Ensures team measures and tracks internal performance for ADC and provides feedback to internal senior leaders.Advises business unit about similar strategies employed by other healthcare companies. Viewed by industry as subject matter expert. Consulted for benchmarking.Drives initiatives that span virtual teams across the world and cross cultures.Critical Skillsets for Success:
Influence and partner with senior business leaders to manage the category. Closely collaborate with adjacent business departments, and external partners to ensure adequate and timely delivery of agreed services, in line with agreed service levels.Partner and collaborate with key One Procurement staff of other Abbott divisions to support cross divisional business initiatives, and drive Procurement synergies and efficiencies.Build and maintain strategic relationships with key category vendors as well as counterparts at other Healthcare/Consumer companies to unlock the maximum value from the category. Manage ongoing Supplier relationships.Create purchasing strategies for category. Communicate vision and strategy for category.Foster a collaborative environment among stakeholders.Initiate, build and maintain strong relationships across various functions, demonstrate the value-add of leveraging and build enthusiasm and support for adoption.Ensure optimal balance between value for money and cost savings is achieved, while ensuring quality and excellent customer service.Translate market changes and dynamics for category into strategy across regionsContinually look for opportunities for cost reductions and cost avoidance.Lead business program management based on category expertise.Responsible for all aspects of people and team leadership; setting expectations, coaching, counseling, developing, evaluating, feedback, hiring, discipline and separation.Superior influencing skills both internally and externally.Lead by example. BA or equivalent experience required: MBA preferred.10+ years of Procurement and/or deep Category experience. Some functional experience in both procurement and category sourcingPreferred Qualifications
Ability to manage virtual team and project staff up to 20-30 people. Directly manages up to 6 managers.Financial implications of the Spend ranging up to $700MM.Strong organizational skills, including program/project governance and increased levels of staff oversight. Direct experience leading governance boards of large multi-disciplinary projects.Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).Strong interdisciplinary, and excellent intercultural influence, and networking skills.Broad international experience and globally astute.Deep knowledge of markets by regions.World class supplier management.
