Schedule:Variable 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, SaturdayPayrate: $26.00/hr, plus, $10/hr per diem. $500 sign on bonus.PURPOSETo work within a team of Pipe Fitters to achieve maximum production in minimum time, standards and quality in keeping with company policies, while maintaining a positive and motivated team environment.SUMMARY:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skill, and/or ability desired. The individual must have knowledge of procedures, strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to follow directions. The individual must possess experience in the trade, knowledge of ship terminology, ability to interpret engineering drawings. The individual must demonstrate ability to interpret job specifications and perform work on marine vessels.Must be able to follow directions and work with limited supervision. Must be willing to develop other team members skill levels.ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:All Personal Protective Equipment PPE is to be provided by the Leased Labor Provider Company. All PPE provided by the Leased Labor Provider Company shall meet the requirements of OSHA and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and /or as specified by Newport News.1.Confined space trained in accordance with OSHA Standards 29 CFR 1915 Subpart B. 2.Hazard communication trained in accordance with OSHA Standard 29CFR 1915.1200 (1910.1200) (h) - (1) through (3) (iv).3.Respirator trained and qualified. A Respirator Medical Clearance Examination as required by a Physician. The Respirator Training and Fit Testing will meet the requirements of Standard 29CFR1910.134 and each individual shall be trained in a negative-pressure type respirator, MSA COMFO CLASSIC (with MSA approved vapors and dust filter cartridges to be provided for them respirators by the LLPC). Newport News requires the use of a MSA COMFO CLASSIC Respirator only (approximate weight 12 oz.). Daily use of respirator may occur.4.Fall Protection/4-D Body Harness-Vertical & Horizontal Lifelines-Beam Clamp trained and qualified in accordance with the following OSHA Regulations; 29CFR1915.159, 29CFR1915.71 (j) (3), 29CFR1915.73 (d), and 29CFR1915.77 (c). Newport News highly recommends the vest-donning type of body harness instead of the step-into-type body harness, with D-Ring in the back. Individuals must be trained (which includes having donned the body harness and demonstrated practical use of the vertical & horizontal lifelines and beam clamp) with the same type fall protection equipment that they are expected to wear on Newport News premises or on off-site Newport News work locations. Body Harness and Vertical & Horizontal Lifelines and Beam Clamps Systems shall comply with the requirements of ANSI Z359.1. NNS may require 60' Self Retracting Lifelines that are Leading Edge compliant and a Quick Grab. NNS uses the FallTech DuraTech Edge SRL-LE. NNS uses the Miller Rope Grab. This rope grab must fit 5/16" carbon steel wire rope. 5.Personal Protective Equipment (PPE*) training in accordance with OSHA Standards 29CFR 1915 Subpart I and Hearing Conversation 29CFT 1910.95 (i)(j)(k)(l).6.Non-prescription and prescription safety glasses must meet the requirements of ANSI Z87, with permanently attached side shields. 7.Hard Hats must be WHITE in color with the Leased Labor Provider Company's name and the individual's last name on the front of the hard hat.8.Hearing protection must be of the muff type (banded or mounted) and must have been trained on their use. Newport News uses the Bilsom Leightning(model L1N).9.Foot protection must be 8"safety boots or leather safety shoes w/spats.10.Coveralls must be flame resistant with long sleeves.11.Audiometric testing which documents proof of individual worker's hearing function. The Leased Labor Provider Company shall ensure those individuals performing audiometric testing meet requirements listed in OSHA Regulation 29CFR1910.95(g)(3)and that the audiometric test resultsarefully explained to each individual by the testing firm. The individual shall sign the test reports as proof of having received verbal communication of the test results. 12.Snood, flashlight, knee pads (good industrial quality type), leather gloves as well as cut resistant gloves, long sleeve, non-synthetic clothing required for grinding, and a Lufkin 966 Two-Way reddened 6ft x 5/8" ruler or similar.13.The physical work effort expected is demanding. The temperature and humidity extremes that may be encountered are the result of ambient temperature and humidity levels in the work area.*PPE training means general requirements, eye and face protection, head protection, foot protection, hand and body protection, hearing protection and body harness-personal fall arrest systems (PFAS) and position device systems.EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:Three or more years as a marine, commercial nuclear, or petro/chem First Class Pipefitter.LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memosAbility to write simple correspondenceMATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and measure using the metric systemREASONING ABILITY:Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formAbility to deal with problems that may arise in certain situationsLIASES WITH:SupervisorsForemenPHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Specific physical requirements include but are not limited to the following:Must have the ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel. Perform prolonged standing. Ability to turn head from side to side and about the vertical axis. Lift/push/pull 50lbs on an occasional basis. Lift/push/pull up to 20lbs on a frequent basis. Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps). Ability to work at heights above 12' while working from ladders, scaffolding and/or man lifts. Able to work at a variety of levels (ex. waist, eye, overhead). Demonstrate the ability to safely and appropriately use required tools and equipment. Demonstrate good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles. Possess sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment. Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards. Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures. Ability to enter 18" x 36" openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time within OSHA guidelines. Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands. Able to utilize adequate visual skills. Ability to fully extend the arm while reaching overhead, reaching out, reaching to the side and reaching down. Ability to perceive attributes of an object/material such as size, shape, temperature and texture by means of receptors in the hands and fingers.WORK ENVIRONMENT:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters whole performing the essential functions of this job.
