Job Summary
This position is responsible for all driver training functions for the CDL training program on campus. CDL Driver Trainers must have proven longevity in the field, excellent communication skills, posses demonstrated physical, intellectual, and leadership abilities to perform duties over the road, maneuvering range, and in classroom instruction.
CDL Driver Trainers work under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Education, Program Director, or their designee.
Experience Required:
Minimum:Commercial Driver's License (CDL), High School Diploma or GEDThree years of on-the-road experience within the last five yearsValid CDL-A LicenseAbility to pass our road test, as applicableMust have a current DOT medical cardAs operator of Class A equipment, ability to pass DOT drug tests upon hire and on an ongoing basisAbility to get in and out of the tractors, lift up to 50 lbs., and be on your feet outside, and in all elements from 8-10 hours a dayKey Responsibilities:
Promote and Maintain a Positive Learning EnvironmentMaintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of all school policies, and adhere to and uphold their implementation and enforcementConvene all assigned classes per their start and end timesMaintain a safe environment for all students, faculty, and staffSafeguard materials, records, and equipmentAbide by all Federal, state, and accreditation/compliance rules and regulationsServe as a professional role model to studentsInspires student confidence in school, faculty, and selfMaintains professional dress and demeanorMaintains appropriate confidentiality when working with students, records, and administrative staff.Maintains an attitude of enthusiasm and willingness to cooperate and collaborate.Interacts with students and fellow employees in a courteous, professional, and positive manner.Treats students with fairness, impartiality, and objectivity.Provides advanced notification regarding lateness, absence, and vacation schedules during the time of substitute assignment.Fulfills Administrative ResponsibilitiesMaintains accurate, up-to-date records of student progress, performance, and attendance, using the tools and technology provided by the institution, as required by school policy and procedure.Maintains appropriate confidentiality when working with students, records, and administrative staff.Maintains flexibility in fulfilling the instructional needs of the school.Delivers Instructional MaterialTrain students in all areas of trucking/drivingAdminister written tests on classroom material and evaluate gradesConduct pre-trip inspections of tractor-trailersInstruct air-brake testInstruct straight-line backingInstruct 45-degree alley-dockingInstruct parallel parking - sight side / blind sideUtilizes effective delivery skills (e.g., eye contact, voice intonation, and various questioning techniques).Draws on personal experiences to relate the material presented.required to work weekends (Saturday and Sunday) as needed.
