Job Description:

Provisional Junior Custodian

Great opportunity for advancement to full time position.

Position Definition:

A custodian is the caretaker of the school facility to which (s)he is assigned; and charged with maintaining and continually improving that facility as a safe, secure, clean, orderly and functional environment of learning. All duties and responsibilities shall be performed in accordance with established standards, procedures and protocols; and within timelines that will not interfere with the school's operational schedule.

General Duties : Duties and responsibilities common to all levels in the Custodial Series shall include but not be limited to the following areas:

Custodial Cleaning:Cleans and maintains assigned classrooms, dining and assembly areas, hallways, stairways and storage areas, restrooms, locker rooms, shower rooms and other internal and exterior athletic and recreational areas, sidewalks and exterior walkways serving the premises, offices, meeting rooms and common areas(in selected facilities) cleans and maintains swimming pool(s) and pool areas in accordance with all standards a safety and healthUses brooms, mops, and light- and heavy-duty floor cleaning equipment to sweep, mop, strip and wax floorsUses any required procedures to control and minimize dust accumulationUses vacuum cleaners to clean rugs, carpets, walls, ceilings and lighting fixtures, cabinets, lockers, furniture and window treatmentsCleans and sanitizes toilet areas, washrooms, showers, locker rooms and drinking water distribution unitsWashes walls, ceilings, woodwork, interior and exterior window surfaces, window treatments, doors and sillsCustodial Maintenance:

Performs lawn maintenance, weed control and basic landscape maintenanceMaintains and regulates heating, ventilation, humidification and dehumidification, lighting, electrical and air conditioning systems according to the needs of the assigned building and its environmentReplaces light bulbsPerforms touch up and finish paintingPerforms minor (non-licensed) carpentry, electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairsReports all major repair requirements through established channels and within established timelinesProvisional Junior Maintenance

Oversees maintenance work performed by School Department personnel and/or contractors and ensures compliant practicesExecutes the waste management plan including any segregation, recycling, cleaning and/or sanitation componentsMaintains driveways, parking areas, entrances and passageways as appropriate to clear snow, ice, standing water, leaves, debris and/or other impediments to safe passageMaintain and repair custodial equipment and tool inventorySecurity:

At the beginning of each working period (shift), ensures that all doors and locking systems are functionalAt the end of each working period, ensures that all access and egress points are secured and that electronic alarms or surveillance systems are activated and functionalEnsures that all operational service providers are appropriately registered upon arrival and departure from facilityCode Compliance:

Follows all applicable health, safety and code compliance rules, regulations and procedures; executes any and all custodial components of communicable disease prevention and control plansRaises and lowers Federal and State flags at appropriate intervalsControls all cleaning solutions, compounds and chemicals during use, prohibiting access by students and staffSecurely stores all cleaning solutions, compounds and chemicals when not in useFacility Utilization & Support Service:

Sets up, breaks down and appropriately stores furniture and equipment used to facilitate meetings, functions and assemblyRelocates, retrieves and/or delivers furniture, furnishings, supplies and materials from one area to anotherAssists with breakfast and/or lunch programs as requiredResource Conservation & Business Practices:

Maintains practices that help to ensure economical use of all resources, including but not limited to fuel, water, electricity and custodial maintenance equipment and suppliesMaintains current record of inventory levels of materials, supplies and equipment; follows replacement protocolsProvisional Junior Maintenance

Reports accomplishments verbally and/or records work assignments, progress and related details as directedProcesses work requests in accordance with detail standards and within established timelinesQualifications:

Knowledge of the practices and techniques of custodial cleaningA basic work ethic and initiative for continuing improvementPhysical ability to perform an acceptable quantity & quality of work at all timesA work history of dependability and reliabilityA positive and cooperative attitudeAbility to meet attendance requirements.High School diploma or GEDValid Drivers license.Must clear criminal, physical and chemical screeningsAbility to apply common sense understanding in fulfillment of oral or written instructionsAbility to relate to officials, staff and public in a courteous mannerAbility to acquire job skills with two months of on-the-job trainingAbility to lift and carry objects weighing from 15 to 25 poundsAbility to work occasionally in poor weather conditions, including

heat, cold, rain, or snow
