Duties: The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz invites applications in consideration for appointment to the Director of Wellness & Recreation to serve in the Department of Athletics, Wellness, & Recreation. This calendar-year position will be responsible for the vision and operations for the wellness and recreation program at SUNY New Paltz. They will manage the operations of the Athletic Wellness Center (a 57,000 square foot building that houses two fitness areas and indoor track). The University also has a pool that is used for both competition and recreation, an auxiliary gym, and multiple other workout spaces. The director will serve as a senior staff member within the department and report directly to the Director of Athletics, Wellness and Recreation. Duties for this position include but are not limited to:

• Lead the Department of Wellness & Recreation, supervising and providing guidance to professional staff, support staff, and student staff• Propose and mange the departmental budget needs and formulate a plan of action to meet budget expectations• Develop action plans and marketing strategies to engage existing students and attract new student users• Study, assess, and report on programs and facility services effectiveness and efficiency in meeting department goals• Develop policies and operating procedures relating to all Wellness & Recreation facilities and programs that promote safety, care of equipment, equal access, and superior service• Promote full participation and involvement of a diverse student population at all opportunities within Wellness & Recreation• Coordinate the repairs and maintenance of the equipment within the Athletic & Wellness Center• Responsible for Risk Management within Wellness & Recreation programming• Hires, trains, and schedules all student, building, and wellness staff employees to perform essential functions• Supervise the Assistant Director of Wellness & Recreation• Professional Development (Local and National) with the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA)• Serve on campus committee to represent the department

Qualifications: Required:• Bachelor’s degree and at least four years’ experience in college administration• Demonstrated ability to establish good rapport and effective working relationships with student–athletes, coaches and staff• Five (5) years experience organizing, planning, and implementing a recreation, fitness, wellness and special events in a college or university setting• Ability to work weekends and observe a schedule that meets operational needs• Current CPR, AED, and first aid certifications required

Preferred:• Master’s degree
