DESCRIPTION
The Tanker Driver/Operator is an entry-level position in this classification. This position is responsible for assisting the Lead Tanker Driver/Operator with the operation of the vacuum truck and cleaning of the storm conveyance system. Assists the Lead Tanker Driver/Operator with the transportation of materials, supplies and other equipment used for the construction and maintenance of county infrastructure to job sites in accordance with the guidelines of applicable traffic codes, safety rules and regulations, and supervisory instruction. Assists the Lead Tanker Driver/Operator in the hauling of refined fuels to job site and handles medium complexity level work activities using vacuum truck. Responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and securing all assigned equipment as directed by legislation, policies and procedures.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides support to the Lead Tanker Driver/Operator in the operation of the vacuum tanker in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life. Uses equipment as appropriate to perform construction, maintenance of road and drainage systems, sidewalks, and right-of-way. Performs pre-winter, winter, spring and summer maintenance on roads, all under the guidance of the Lead Tanker Driver/OperatorAssists the Lead Tanker Driver/Operator in performing storm sewer daily maintenance checks and activities. Enter, track and update work-performed data in the AED electronic data management system under the guidance of the Lead Tanker Driver/OperatorMaintain inventory, perform daily maintenance checks and advise supervisor of any requirement for maintenance or repairs, and cleans heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required under the guidance of the Lead Tanker Driver/OperatorProvides support to the Lead Tanker Driver/Operator in the operation of the fuel tanker to haul refined fuel to job sites to fuel equipment and machinery used to perform construction, maintenance of road system, drainage system, sidewalk and right-of-wayMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Must have proficient knowledge of truck and equipment safetyKnowledge of road construction and maintenance techniquesKnowledge of equipment cleaning standards and proceduresFamiliar with operation of front-end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, snow blowers and other pieces of heavy equipment maintenance and storageMust have the ability to operate single axle trucks in a safe and responsible mannerAbility to read, and write to record pickups and maintain daily recordsAbility to work independently or as a team member successfullyLicensing:
Must have a valid state operator/driver's license with good driving history.Ability to obtain a CDL class "A" driver's license within 12 months of employmentAbility to obtain hazmat or tanker endorsements to CDL within 18 months of employment

This position does require staff call up in an emergency situation.This position does require travel from the office to other locations for more than 50% of the time.
