Boston Dynamics, Watertown, Massachusetts, us, 02472
As a Sustaining Electrical Engineer on the Spot team, you will support the electronics for all fielded versions of Boston Dynamics' quadruped mobile robots. You will be responsible for electrical bug triage, troubleshooting, and resolution. Additionally, you will support the operations team by resolving component obsolescence issues, qualifying production first articles, and resolving supplier DFM feedback. You'll love working on a fun, collaborative, and highly capable team to support one of the world's coolest robots.
Boston Dynamics is a world leader in mobile robots, tackling some of the toughest robotics challenges. For years, our awe-inspiring viral videos on YouTube have shown the world what remarkably capable robots can do. Now we are quickly becoming a recognized leader in automation solutions for industrial applications and warehouse logistics.
How you will make an impact:
Develop (document, design, test, support) short- and long-term solutions to product design defects including circuit re-design, component changes, and identifying SW workaroundsCollaborate across the engineering, manufacturing, production, and test teams to triage, troubleshoot, and diagnose robot failures to root causeQualify production supplier changes by developing and executing Production Validation Test (PVT) plans, resolving Design For Manufacturing (DFM) feedback, collaborating with suppliers, and updating technical documentationAuthor technical documentation such as test plans and reports, rework instructions, schematics, layout, and BOMsCollaborate with supply chain to resolve component obsolescence issuesDocument and present findings to the greater engineering teamDevelop non-production test and debugging infrastructure (test boards, cables, software, tools, etc.)Create Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)Participate in design reviewsIdentify design, process, and production test improvement opportunities to drive down design errors and production defect ratesWe are looking for:
BS in electrical engineering, computer engineering, robotics, or closely related field2+ years of directly related work experiencePassion for sustaining electronics in the production lifecycle phaseDemonstrated ability to debug to root cause electrical issuesEmbedded computing and/or robotics systems knowledgeElectrical engineering fundamentalsExperience with schematic capture and PCB layout software (e.g. Altium)Familiarity with common PLM software (e.g. Arena)Basic Linux skillsDetail oriented, methodical, and creative problem solverNice to have:
Software development in C/C++, Python, Verilog/VHDL, and/or LabViewFamiliarity with Jira for bug trackingFamiliarity with formal problem solving techniques such as 5 Whys, 8D, etc.
