Director of Nursing

Overview:

The Director of Nursing (DON) directs clinical programs and ensures that company standards and state requirements for resident care are met. This role involves directing staff, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing the clinical budget. The DON coordinates family/resident care conferences and serves as a liaison between residents, families, and staff to ensure appropriate levels of care.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Oversight: Directly oversee the delivery of care to Assisted Living and Memory Care residents, ensuring that their emotional, physical, psychological, and safety needs are met through all program services and activities.

Team Coordination: Manage and coordinate the work of all nursing and other assisted living and memory care staff. Communicate pertinent resident health and safety information and oversee staff schedules and daily assignments.

Family/Resident Coordination: Coordinate family/resident care conferences with the Executive Director and serve as a direct liaison between residents, families, and staff.

Budget Management: Manage labor costs, supplies, and other line items in the clinical budget.

Regulatory Compliance: Monitor documentation systems to ensure compliance with regulatory timeframes for review of assessments and service plans. Write and review resident assessments/evaluations and care plans with appropriate staff.

Resident Assessment: Assess/evaluate potential residents for Assisted Living and Memory Care level of care. This may involve home visits or assessments in other healthcare settings. Schedule and conduct new resident orientation for all Assisted Living residents.

Medication Management: Provide oversight of the community medication management program to promote resident safety in the medication use process.

Collaborative Care: Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and other clinical providers to coordinate care and services for the residents within the community.

Quality Improvement: Track, trend, and report clinical quality data to identify risks. Lead clinical quality and process improvement initiatives to mitigate risk and improve resident care outcomes.

Staff Management: Recruit, hire, and train clinical as well as caregiving team members. Manage performance, evaluations, and engagement. Schedule and monitor staff training programs and in-services.

Safety Management: Strive to maintain a safe working environment through accident prevention, equipment preservation, and safe working practices.

Regulatory Reporting: Ensure compliance with state regulatory requirements, including mandatory reporting. Ensure that all concern and incident reports are completed and follow-up is conducted appropriately.

Professionalism: Maintain a positive and professional demeanor toward residents, visitors, families, and co-workers while adhering to all company policies, standards, and procedures.

On-Call Support: Provide 24/7 on-call clinical support.

Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

- 10+ years of experience as an RN; experience in memory care, assisted living, and long-term care preferred.

- 5+ years of nursing management experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, scheduling, and daily operations supervision.

- Experience in tracking, trending, and analyzing clinical performance data preferred.
