Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Primary contributor to perform technical accounting research required by the finance department in accordance with US GAAP, including ASC topics covering leases, equity/share-based compensation, derivatives, business combinations, complex revenue recognition, etc.
Draft technical accounting positions and conclusions derived from the above research.
Evaluate emerging accounting pronouncements/updates for relevance/applicability to Asplundh’s family of companies.
Identify and evaluate local IFRS (foreign operations) vs. US-GAAP consolidated financial results and accounting differences
Administer the company’s lease accounting management tools (Visual Lease and PeopleSoft) for both operating and finance leases; record related accounting activities
Execute monthly accounting activities related to derivative/hedge accounting (e.g. commodity, interest-rate swap and/or foreign currency exchange hedging instruments)
Provide technical accounting support to the Business Development team, including due diligence support (e.g. review key contracts, accounting policies, etc.)
Support General Accounting team regarding complex accounting issues/fact-pattern analysis
Handle other responsibilities, as needed, such as project/system implementation support.
Requirements:
BS in Accounting.
CPA (Preferred, but not required).
Minimum of 2-3 years in accounting (or similar) experience with increasing responsibilities directly involved in technical accounting matters; extensive experience in the technical accounting topics noted above is preferred
Large, public company/SEC reporting experience preferred
Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate/translate complex, technical matters effectively to a non-technical audience.
Teachable attitude / willingness to learn.
Ability to contribute creatively to a vision of “what could be”, not just focused on “what is/has been”
Ability to execute tasks within a project plan on time and at a high-level of quality.
Experience using modern ERP’s such as SAP or Oracle is preferred
Good social skills in dealing with internal personnel, auditors, stakeholders, etc.
