Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - PRN (as needed) Evening Shift

JOB SUMMARY

Provides respiratory therapy designed to stabilize, prevent or remedy patient respiratory problems. Arranges and operates a variety of oxygen and other therapeutic gas and aerosolized, meter dosed, or powdered medications to patients. Operates various mechanical devices that aide in the recovery of patients. Cleans and checks equipment regularly for proper functioning and records data obtained during therapy in patient records.

JOB DUTIES

Actively demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values. Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information. Reads and interprets physicians’ orders to determine treatment requirements including type and duration of therapy, medication, dosages, and ventilator settings. Confers with patients and/or family members to obtain pertinent patient information during assessment including history of respiratory problems, current medication, patient pulse rate and the like. Reviews patients’ chart to obtain blood-gas report and other pertinent information. Explains treatment procedures to patient and/ or family members to alleviate fears and elicit cooperation. Checks equipment for proper set-up, functioning and settings, and verifies physicians’ orders before initiating procedures and treatments. Prepares medications according to prescription/order and adds to device. Observes patients during therapy, instructs patient in breathing pattern and reports any abnormalities to physician. Documents treatment activities and results in patient record (i.e. treatment type, medication, HR, PR, BS, cough, and so on). Monitors patients on continuous ventilation including maintenance of airway patency, suctioning and documents in such during schedules vent checks. When indicated, wean patients from mechanical ventilation according to established protocols. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

Education: Graduate of an AMA accredited program.

Licensure: Currently holding a License in Respiratory Therapy from the State of Indiana. Must hold minimum CRT credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care.

Experience: Experience desired in Critical Care, NICU, Open Heart Recovery, and Bronchoscopy.

Work requires the analytical ability to resolve complex problems requiring the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in-depth, experience-based knowledge.

Work requires the ability to communicate effectively orally, written, and electronically. This may include explaining clinical, technical and diagnostic procedures to patients and their families, comforting patients and their families, enforcing policies and regulations in difficult situations, or performing other duties requiring a comparable level of communication.

Work requires providing direct patient care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, young adult, adult and geriatric patients.

Work requires working with equipment or performing procedures where carelessness could result in loss of patient’s life and could probably result in minor cuts, bruises, or muscle pulls.

Assigned hours within your shift, starting time, or days of work are subject to change based on departmental and/or organizational needs.
